Default Which Automatic Transmission?

Just curious as to which automatic tranny would you guys recommend using in my possible new setup? We are taking my LSX 427 motor and installing it into a C5 platform with either a F1r,F2r if it will fit or the Novi Kit from ECS. Shooting for the 1000rwhp mark and would like to keep the overdrive tranny if possible. Making the power is not the problem, just looking to find out what would be the best option for the tranny to last atleast a full year before having it freshened up. Thanks in advance.

I also have an RPM Stage VI 4L65E tranny. I currently have 505 RWHP, but am building a 454 LSX, and looking to produce 1000RWHP soon!

I have done some searching and have seen someone on here running low 9s with that RPM tranny. This is probably what I will do, since i want to keep OD, and the wife can drive it as well.

At 1000 RWHP ya may need more than what any 4L65E has to offer for a long living tranny.
At least that's what I have been told and I have a stage VI +.

Talking to the guys at RPM would be good start.

You need to finish the TA and dump the idea of a Vette. Let'em Hang.
Eigther that or sell it complete and go buy a Z06 and call it done.

A 4l60-4l65 at any stage with 1,000 hp, "in my opinion" is like banging a hot chick with an STD. You really want to hit it but you are afraid of the consequences.

I would do a 4L80E Transmission. We run RPM 4L80's in all of out high HP Auto setups.

You could probably make more passes down the track with an 800 shot on pump gas than a 4l60e at that power level. I've seen multiple locals with less power go through them faster than tanks of gas. They tried many vendors including those mentioned above.

This isn't going to be an allout drag car. I just want something to be reliable for when I go to certain track days and the LSX shootout to race. I maybe will put 50 pass's a year on it at the track.

50 "real" passes a year? Survey says it ain't gonna last. If you want big power you're either going to sacrifice $$$$ or reliability.

We went 8's all season with our Glide kit and not so much as a hiccup.. Looked like new at the end of the season too. If you are going to get into index or brackets the Glide will be more consistant that the 4L60 or the 4L80 too. Any questions let us know.

Keeping the wife happy with the OD is a good idea.If she ain't happy then you won't be happy no matter how fast you are going.
I know Arun got a lot of passes out of his RPM 4L60E and when they did pull it apart for some updates it looked pretty good inside. That's from a real street car that has been driven just the way you describe.I know the tune and proper maintenance have a lot to do with it.Simple things like not letting the trans downshift to 3rd at full power saves the trans.
I can just hear it now."Now keep it in 3rd Honey when you accelerate and when the car goes up on the sidewalk just pedal it till the car staightens out."
Good luck.

There are only two instances in which one lets out. One- If you see the timing tower. Two- If you see God.

I know you're only kidding.Once you get out of shape the race is over.I've seen God many times.Well.At least the blue sky.Great for pics but hard on the landing if you doen't have enough power or skill to lay her down.I've hit the wall twice in 40 years of drag racing.Bad enough being pulled out of your wreck on a board and going to the hospital but worse coming back to look at your totalled car.Real expensive and another season to build a new one.

PS.GET A NECK BRACE.EVEN IF YOU ARE ONLY GOING 11s!! IT WILL SAVE YOU A LIFE TIME OF MISSERY AND THEY ARE CHEAP.

Yes I was only kidding. It's a quote I saw somewhere that I thought was hilarious. I've only looked at the wall a few times thus far and I pray that's as close as I come to ever smacking one.
