How many forum members have actually completed a LPE Maguson install? I am still considering this option, but would like some actual success stories.

Why would you want a Magnuson when the ATI beats it by 100rwhp? No intercoolers with the Magnuson and you have to use that LPE hood. Its about the same cost to go with an ATI setup. JMO

Roots screw design (magnacharger) vs. centrifugal type. Most, if not all, car mfrs. are using the Roots style s/c's on their vehicles.

#1 The reliability on the roots blower is superior.
#2 The power band is more linear vs centrifigal curves that seem to peak towards the top of the RPM range so while it is superior on the Dyno how superior is it on the street and or track? I have not seen any out standing times on the ATI cars just big Dyno #s ala Supras.
#3 The stock bottom end on the Vette has some reliability issues above the 500 rwhp mark.
#4 Do ATI blowers offer a 3 yr warranty on the motor and drive train? Magnusson DOES.
#5 The ugly hood issue is subjective as we have sold 2 of the aftermarket hoods to NON SUPERCHARGED customers.

I would give up some peak HP on the dyno for a more reliable
everyday driver with a Warranty!

Take a look at my torque curves in another thread. The Mag hops up to 400 lb-ft just above 2000 rpm and stays there to redline.

I ran with Sack Rat (650 TT) from 60 to 125 the other day in Dallas 98 degree weather. He pulled me by a couple of cars (and was still opening when I let off, but you get the idea). I am not saying that I was close to equalling his power, but it sure was a lot closer than I would have thought.

Coolant runs 180 degrees all day too.

Oh, and I like my hood, thank you very much.

And i also believe Flintstone's car is stock(no headers, cam, headwork, valvetrain, etc...) other than the blower. Judging by his brief story in his previous post, his car runs VERY well. Also, JMO. :seeya

To get back to the original question here. I have installed the LPE supercharger. It took just under 5 hours, probably closer to 4 since we lowered the front end and had lunch during the install. It was actually very easy, and if it weren't for having to pin the crank could probably have been done in less than 3 hours. Just make sure you get the conplete instructions from LPE, as they have a few extra pages that are missing from the magnuson book. We found out the hard way, but still managed.

A well tuned ATI will push out 400rwtq @ 3250 RPM and 500rwhp @ 5250 RPM - sounds good to me

If you want the dyno sheet let me know :smash:

Dave, I had to have my car trailered out to LPE ( they are supposed to pick up the tab on that ) This was there first 97 auto, so they are using my car as a base line. I hope I can pick it up this week.

Would just like to add my .02.

When I was at LPE, I was impressed with the MagnaCharger and how immediate the boost kicked in. Although it didn't have the power of the TWINS, it seems like it might meet the TWINS at the 1/4 because of the early boost. I do admit, however, that the lack of an inetrcooler in the S Fla heat concerned me. And he did admit that it may suffer "Minimal" performance "Relatively" speaking, meaning compared to the Intercooled Twins, which would not suffer any performance.

As far as the warranty, I don't think you could beat LPE's warranty or work. I have yet to hear one negative story of LPE. I have heard 3 (From the F Bodys) about ATI.

In any case , I would get a ride in, or if possible, drive for yourself the Magna Charger and the PROCHARGER before you buy

I don't like the hood.....It doesn't flow with the lines of the car.....it just looks like a box glued to the stock hood.....no style....look at the Halltech hood....soon to be released by Extreme. ...JMO

I agree with you about not totally flowing with the body style especially if you are going with the sleeper look. But the hood does give the look of power and brings back memories of older muscle vett's with 427's stuffed under the hood. Personally it seperates my car from the pack. Sure the Hallteck hood looks nice, but it wount do anything for us magna charger guys anyways.

Your right, I forgot about the clearance issues with the Magnuson. That eliminates most of the other hoods. One question...is the back of the hood open to help remove heat?

No, at least not on the LPE hood. But as far as I been lead to understand the LPE hood is actually made by ACI. It was suppose to be desinged to fit the super charger making it just a bit higher than their regular high rise hood and different in front. But I can see where it could be cut out and the same screens that ACI uses on their high rise could be put in. That was something I was going to look into, but haven't had time yet. Hood went right to painter and we installed SC, put everything back together and shipped off to LPE. When I get it back(hopefully tomarrow) I will start looking into the rear cut out for the hood.

Kerry....sounds like a good plan....by the way have you seen the ACI rocker replacement kit? I think has brake cooling ducts. I've never seen any products from ACI and are they all of good quality....fit and finish?
