Default C5 ERL 383 Stroker Motor, S480 BorgeWarner Turbo

What type of HP/TQ can I get out of this setup?

What tpe of times should I expect out of this set up at the 1/4 mile track?
  • BorgeWarner S480 (Rated at 750-1250 HP) JMS Racing Custom Build (keeps A/C and all the street options)
  • ERL 383 short block using new LS6 block, Callies crank rods and Wiseco pistons, 11:1; 7.400 - push rods
  • Comp Cam 224/230 .581/.588 LSA 114
  • Powerbond Underdrive Pulley & New Belts
  • LS6 Oil Pump
  • LS6 Heads (243 Stamp) CNC Ported (with3 angle valve job and lowed the height all the way across all towers by .050 which should add 20-30 additional HP for the work on the Heads)
  • Nick Williams 102mm Electronic Throttle Body
  • MSD Intake Manifold

Plus:
  • Transmission from Finish Line Transmission: Level VI with Trans Cooler
  • Stall Converter: Yank SS Series – 2800 Stall
  • 3.42 Gears
  • BC Racing Coilovers
  • Wilwood 6 piston front and 4 piston rear calibers/Rotors and Breaks
  • Large Air Intercooler
  • Presision 1,600cc fuel injectors
  • CCW Racing Wheels with Mickey Thompson Street R Tires: 305/45R/17 rears.
  • 4" down pipe

We have a pretty close setup. I've got an Iron AES 390, Forced Induction billet S480, level 6 FLT trans w/3800 rpm converter, & a Patrick G spec'ed turbo cam on E85. My motor builder told me an identical short block has taken over 1200 RWHP . My ported 317's will most likely limit my combo at 1000 RWHP. A set of aftermarket castings should get me over 1200 RWHP with more boost with my current turbo. He says the heads tend to lift and push water past 1k RWHP.

I'm currently at a hair above 700 RWHP at 15lbs and I've been 9.91 through the 1/4, I believe at 141 mph.

I've still got a factory diff & torque tube so I'm thinking about staying below 900 RWHP to attempt to keep the car together.

Default Thanks for the input!

I'm hoping to be between 800-900 RWHP. The bottom end is built and the Torque Tube has metal bushings. Not sure how much boost it will take to get me there but I think anymore will just spin the wheels... Still working off of the stock computer so it will be interesting if it can keep up...

You should have zero issues with the stock computer. I'm still running a stock ECM and am a good bit ahead of where you are. Its all in the tune my friend.

So what year ECM are you running? Mine is a 1998 thus my concerns... The 97-98 were the older ECMs big upgrade with the 1999-2004.

I had a single S480 T6 turbo setup in my car last couple years. 16psi was putting down 850+whp thru an unlocked powerglide. Car went consistent 5.5/6@128-130 in the 1/8. Went to 1/4 once on 12psi and un prepped track. Went 6.0@120 to 9.1@150. That was on a stock LS3 engine with studs, cam and valve springs. In my opinion you will need a larger stall in order to leave on any boost at all.

I maxed the turbo out at 19psi and 960whp on my new engine (LSX LS3 376) but haven't been back to the track yet. I have a billet GT55/88 now do hope to pick up a couple hundred ponies.

BTW I'm on stock PCM as well, 2002 tuned by me with HP Tuners. I'd like to see a 4/7 second pass on the stock pcm before going standalone and I also need to pass inspections via OBDII

Good luck with the setup!!!!

I really appreciate your input! Those are great numbers! I'm hoping to make some power gains with this build! It will be lots of fun on the track!

Did you you have to install a roll bar with those numbers at the track? If so how much did it run, what type, and where from? Seems like it's lots of money to put this baby together and then to keep her running strong too.

Thanks Again!

Roger

I didn't have a cage in it with the old setup. Luckily the tracks here are somewhat lenient. However for safety reasons and to pass tech at certain tracks the car has a 10pt and a parachute now. I had a local shop fab the cromoly cage. I have around $3600 in the cage/chute.

Default Update Almost Done!

She is about done! Power Coating complete, issues with blowby fixed, New turbo CAM installed, bumper and hood replaced for more airflow!

These are now for sale... Have the screen for the front bumper or factory black cover... Fresh paint job on the bumper.

Love the hood and all the boost but I just can't get down with that front bumper, it just doesn't flow with the lines of the car to me. Maybe it's the reflections in the paint that is throwing me off.

It's the same bumper as the C6 will allow more air to cool the Turbo... Think it's the reflection from the light that makes it look like that since it was just painted.
