102MM Boost Issues

Turbo-Geist, the NW tb opens from the bottom outward. So do you mean flipping it around so it opens from the top outward may help? Maybe the air has more leverage opening the tb that way so it stays open at WOT?

Nick Williams
I bought the Nick Williams throttle body for the boosted application, 750.00$. Still had a reduced engine power problem. It wasn't until I put a stock LS2 throttle body on that it fixed my problem. My setup was an LSX 427 with an F1X pro charger.

I had a NW on my old setup and did not have issues. Mine was a little older NW 102 and actually had a c5 motor on it not a c6. 102 TB's also make a big difference on positive displacement blowers and less on centi blowers or turbos. The TB is before the blower and being sucked through and blown through.
I was told one time that pretty much all the power adders are good pushers but are bad suckers. Restricting the suction makes it worse.

To detail it a little better, tuners can make it work in the dyno for a while but I swear, before you reach home you will start getting all kind of P1XXX computer error codes and the engine failing at every corner.

You diffently are not the only one that had issues with it. I don't know how they get away with selling it as a boosted throttle body.

and i know it's from last year, but i found this searching for boost-friendly 102 TBs & wanted to clear up a little mis-information.

My .02 on the subject:
If you are N/A or have a PD-style blower, like a Maggie and want to gain a relative idea of how much there is to be gained with a throttle body swap, remove all restrictions from in front of your existing throttle body and get a good, high resolution vacuum gauge or even a MAP sensor and tap into the intake area behind the throttle body and log the difference between the readings with the engine off and the vacuum readings at WOT. Any vacuum will be a reflection of how much restriction to flow your throttle body is creating. The same can be done with tapping into the area between the filter and blower inlet on a centrifugal setup or a turbo setup.
As for issues with throttle bodies, I've run the fairly new Nick Williams throttle body that's designed for boost up to 39+psi so far without any issues.

For me, it isn't worth it.. the problems with the NW throttle bodies - both the original and the "boost" model are well documented. I will stick with my 90mm LS2 throttle body that is pretty much flawless.
