Default Procharger Problem

Had unit installed a month ago. From the beginning, oil would seep up through
the dipstick opening.Changing the sealing gaskets on the dipstick did not help.
If you look at blower immediately after turning off the engine, you can see bubbles forming in the oil around the dipstick opening.
Any ideas?

You need a one way check valve installed in your PCV line. This keeps your S/C from boosting the crank case and pushing out the dip stick. You can see it to the left of the Throttle Body. Call Andy @ A&A to order parts and instructions for installation.

Are you talking about the crankcase oil dipstick, or the Procharger head unit dipstick (gear oil)?

My P1 unit dipstick did the same thing. I called ATI (like calling the IRS) and they were complete idiots. I bought some teflon plumber's tape (the yellow stuff used for natural gas) and I wrapped it around the dipstick threads. Leak and bubbling GONE! Try it...it really works.

Mike,
Thanks a lot.In retrospect it's an obvious solution, but considering the cost of the unit,I don't think its our responsibilty to solve the problem.I'm stopping at Home Depot on the way home from work to pick up the tape.
BTW,this oil did a number on my freshly coated driveway before I realized it.
Have a great Thanksgiving & thanks again.

Wow! Who put a quarter in you??? Next time I have a bearing seize, a belt shred or it pukes out oil all over my engine compartment, I'll just have you (the ATI ombudsman) just "walk on over" and ask your neighbors at ATI to help me out.

As far as the BJ from the twins...no sir...not a complaint from me. (Are they your neighbors too???)

OH....before I forget....If I want to hear from you, I'll throw you a fish.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I have not had this problem, but if I did I would expect ATI to make it right and camp on their phone until they did.

Just my .02 :leaving:

Are you absolutely sure it's not overfilled. I would empty it and add one bottle of oil. Wouldn't hurt to change it, and you will know for certain you have the proper amount of oil in it.

Vetterdstr had misunderstood the original post and thought he was talking about the engine dipstick. Crankcase pressure has nothing to do with the S/C dipstick.

"i'll vote with vetterdstr that it is most likely a pcv issue."

Tattooed keep typing bro you are getting funnier every post. Sounds like your buds over at ATI really have you brain washed. Do you really think crankcase pressure is causing a problem with you SC leaking. Are you reading other posts before you post?

Good luck Richy in getting your leak fixed. Of all the other issues, thats not one that Ive had to deal with.

in fact, my SC unit is currently at ATI because i thought it was leaking. it is probably a pcv related leak in my case though.
LOL. What a read. This just keeps getting better by the minute. Heres another quarter. I thought your system was installed by "people who know what they are doing" ?? Surely your ATI bro's knew what they were doing when the head unit was initially built, and surely your installers knew what they were doing, since they have apparently done 50-100 installs, and since you have soooooo much faith in both of them, you knew better not to alter or tamper with anything after installation. So if all that is the case, who is to blame for the oil residue/leakage?? Plus, do you have so much oil spewing all over the place that you cant even tell where its coming from??

Corvette Forum: Calling All ATI Experts

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=666115
Corvette Forum: c5 in shop for ATI now - how much rwhp and rwtq will i get?

What really is the funny part is that you made such an issue before that you have one of the earlier ATI units for about a year and have never had any problems with it, which gave me and probably many others the impression that its been installed and running. The fact of the matter is that you just RECENTLY got it installed, which I read in the "C5 in shop for ATI now" thread thread just a couple weeks ago. So I guess its been sitting around on the garage floor for quite some time. And since you JUST got it installed, you have just now experienced your first problem, LOL. If you have the same pulleys from that original kit, you WILL be replacing them as well when they prematurely wear out.

As for any additional mods or whatever that OCMike has installed is unrelated and irrelevant. None of that would cause the dipstick to leak. Plumbing, intercooler, cam, tuning, and heads isnt going to cause the head unit dipstick to leak. I could install this head unit on anything from a go-kart to a 747, and as long as it spun within the specified RPM's, the dipstick shouldnt leak unless it was another defect from ATI.

Perhaps the mating surface or casting where the dipstick screws in isnt flush or flat which could prevent a good seal or is something wrong with the threads preventing the dipstick from screwing all the way in?

Happy Thanksgiving, Im heading out of town to see family.

OCMIKE,
Two wraps of yellow teflon tape cured the problem.THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
I guess QC fell down on the job.I would have expected that considering the
price of the unit, this problem should have been picked up at final inspection.
Hopefully, this will be the last post on this thread & we can all chill out & enjoy
the holiday.

i remain firm in my opinion i got a great kit from vortech, a flawless install and no probems whatsoever.

regrettably, ati has a rep for mechanical and qa issues, i am glad i went vortech...

today, let's remember our guys and gals in uniform overseas in some awful places, and give thanks we have them on active duty...
