Default GSD3s excels in rain!

I normally avoid wet weather and today, the weatherman was off by many hours when he said that the rain wouldn't come until "late" afternoon. However, by 1:30 it was coming down hard and continued well past my commute time. Heck, I thought, this'd be a great time to test the Goodyear GSD3s in the rain!
Sooooooo, when there was no one in front of me I opened er up - enough so that my speeds matched or exceeded dry day runs. The funny thing is that the car's grip felt no different than how it feels on perfectly dry days - incredible! Here's a cheers to Goodyear for making such an excellent tire, dry AND wet.

Side note: This was also a good chance to see how my cold air mod faired after driving through streams of rapidly-flowing water. When I returned home, I checked the Halltech Warhead filter and although the bottom end (that is exposed to the cold, wet air) was a little bit wet, the filter as a whole was dry (and the airbridge, cold). My diagnosis? Successfully passed the wet weather test.

Double side note: Road and Track searched for the best overall sportscar and found it - the 2005 Corvette coupe, beating Viper, Porsche, Lotus, Honda, BMW, etc, etc. See the latest issue!

Glad to hear this, the GSD3 are my 1st choice in the very near future. Then the Pilots, and Khumo's if budget is an issue

Sure wish these were offered in more sizes. Getting ready to go with SSR GT3 wheels and the GSD3s aren't available in 19s. Even if I went with Z06 size wheels they aren't even available in a 295/35/18.

I have a feeling that as the larger sized wheels become more popular, Goodyear will match them with the proper-sized D3s. This tire is just too good for them to neglect that end of the market.

I was only able to put about 50 miles on my D3's before I put it away for the winter. This is nice to hear. Can't wait for spring. One thing I was very impressed with was how quiet they were compared to the runflats. Night and day difference. Thanks for the review Dave it's all great to hear.

Dave,

Thanks for the review. I will probably be getting a set of the GSD3's or the Firestone runflats soon. I hate to loose the security of a runflat but I can't handle the harsh ride of the GY runflats any longer.

Thanks for the info. I will probably go with the GS-D3s when I need new tires - it's good to know that they do well in wet weather.

I wish they made these in Z06 sizes. I have heard many positive reviews on these tires.

I've got 10k miles on mine. Great tire rain or shine. Smooth and quiet. Always get comments on the tread pattern.

I purchased my GS-D3s when I had 17-18K on the odometer. I now have almost 37K on the odometer . I have driven these tires in the heat of the southern Arizona desert (I-10) and in the torrential downpours known to happen in TN, and they are FANTASTIC.
As Dave68 says, there is no difference between wet and dry roads (once the roads get a good washing; light rain, mixed with the oils on the road will allow them to spin a bit).
Never had a problem, they balanced out great upon original installation, and continue to balance great with the other two balances I have obtained since original purchase.
Another thing about this tire, that surprised me, as well as a few co-workers; they are wearing great. They are wearing nice and even (mostly due to my **** nature on checking the air pressure ever morning, and keeping the pressures right at 30 psi on a cold tire), and getting alignments and balancing the tires.
Last week I pulled out a tire thread gage, and the rears are at 7/32nds, front at 8/32nds; tire came with 10/32nds thread depth. That equates to 30 percent wear for the rears, 20 percent for the fronts, and that is not bad for performance tires with 20K miles.

I've heard many good reviews on these tires. I still have the orig runflats on mine with only 11,000 miles. I'd really like to get a new set for the quietness and better ride, but hate to take these off with so much tread left. Guess I'll just wait and see if I can stand it or not.

That is absolutely INCREDIBLE! You'd have to buy at least two sets of most other tires to get the same milage out of them. I don't see any wear at all with my tires, and I don't go easy on them at all.

My front EMTs had plenty of thread when I bought my GSD3s, but I couldn't bear to buy new rear EMTs, especially when I heard of the dramatic change in ride quality. The D3s are significantly lighter, which contributes to the much more pleasant ride. I suggest that you replace all four tires when your rear tires are gone. You will never regret it.

Best tire for the C5, IMO. The car handles like it should.

I couldn't agree more. I'm on my second set. Sure do wish Goodyear would make larger sizes like 305's or 315's.

I have them and like them, but would switch to a Z06 sized set if they were available. With 465 rwhp, the 275's will hook up in second gear if the road surface is good, but not in first.

I'm glad to hear such positive reviews of this tire as I have purchased a set of rears from fellow CF member 98vert6spd. The price was outstanding and Andy has been very good to work with.
I plan on calling Luke@Tirerack this week and order for the front end, get my GHL Bullits installed and wait for the spring thaw.

Remember, I did say I was **** about the air pressure.
Even though, my factory rear run flats wore almost to the thread indicators at around 17K. This is on an auto with a 2.73, so I definitely do not do any burnouts.

p1999b- a suggestion for you... I got rear tires from Andy also. I was going to order fronts from Tire Rack, but first I called the local NTB, where I've done business for several years. They quoted me a price, and asked if it was good. I told them it was way too high. They then offered to match or beat Tire Rack's price plus $15 shipping. I ended up getting the fronts for the same price as Tire Rack plus shipping, and I have a local vendor to go back to if there's a problem. They charged me $22 each for mount and lifetime balance. Plus, they let you go back in the shop and make sure they are mounted and balanced to your satisfaction. I had them mount and balance the rears, too. But, I didn't bring the car in - I just brought in the wheels. Remember to mark your wheels left and right, so your sensors go back to the same side of the car they came off... Good luck.
