Default 03 ZO6 With Water Problems

I currently Drive and Evolution VIII and have been looking at ZO6's as an upgrade. Today I came across a diamond in the rough or a straight out problem , heres the story and its long but any help would be very appreciated .

guy buys repossed ZO6 03 black 50th anniversary, loses his job and lets it sit in his drive way for about 2 months straight. It front windshield has water droplets on the inside even though both windows are rolled up. this is the same with the rear windshield. the brake rotors have rust and so do the calipers. 1 wheel has rust due to these conditions. it has an aftermarket hood that has fins , which in my opinion is ugly. no radio antenae and has some type of silver mesh near the fog lights that is bent and mangled.

my question is mainly regarding the water damage. is this a common problem or is it something to worry about? is this a headache waiting to happen? whats this cars worth ? the mileage is about 37,000 something

Not sure if what your describing is actually water damage. Many C5's leak if left outside in the rain. This is a very common issue. And brake rotors will rust if wet. So in my opinion all you have stated is normal for a car that was in the rain and not driven.

The water on the inside can be condensation a not unusual occurance.
If worried about leaks check the carpets, cenetr console and dash to see if they are wet or moist. even if they are there are some very simple fixes to correct that problem if it exists.

The rust on the rotors is normal if not driven.
The bend mesh is over a brake cooling duct. Sounds like he hit something. Again doesn't seem like a big deal.

Good luck

The water on the insiode can be fixed and the leak repaired!! I have solved numerous leak issues and they all are manageable! First i would recommend figuring out where the water is. Check the passengers floor boards, drivers floor boards, and each rear compartment X3,

If you donot find water puddeling somewhere, MAKE SURE that you check the passengers and drivers carpet jute underlayment for dampness.

Once you have zeroed in on where the water is, let me know. Then I can tell you how to solve the leak issue. Have someone spray the car with a water hose and make sure that the water does not leak in from the windows or the top also.

There is a removable toe board in the passengers foot well. I recommend removeing it and checking for water in that compartment. Make sure that you check under the carpet!

HOW MUCH IS THE CAR and how many miles? How many mods???

All Z06s have mesh where the fogs light are usually on C5s. Just not all have bent an mangled mesh where a fog light is.
I would do allot of research on the Z06 via the internet and forums before you go buying one. It will save you $$$ in the end.

sorry for such a long time since last post I have been working on this for a while now. anyway here is the scoop

2003 black ZO6
22,000 miles
wants 20k

problems are this:
he bought it as a stolen recovery vehicle (clear title tho)
ugly aftermarket hood
no radio antane
water leaking thru windsheild due to the theft
No brakes, they are completely toast from rust and feels like metal to
metal
small notch from where the robbers tried to jimmy the door open (very
minor)
headlights dont work because are disconnected (they raise but not
light up)

also considering
engine bay is perfect
interior is perfect (except for the leak which hasnt staining or anything)
engine sounds like normal and tranny gets into gear smooth as
showroom car)

here is my dilema
i owe 23k on my EVO and need to sell it in 2 weeks (thats the length of
time the fellow gave me to get him cash in hand)
trading a 4 door 5 passenger to get a 2 door 2 passenger

any thoughts will be appreciated

Price is cheap... but you may be getting what you pay for..
The main problem I see is that there may be serious damage to parts of the car that you can't see or easily check out..

One more point... my son purchased a car from the Honda dealer that was a stolen from the lot. It was recovered and checked out by the dealer.. They said all was well and there were no problems...
My son purchased the car (as a beater car) and found out there were suspension problems as the car had bent tie rods and other problems.. The dealer made it right... but we had to fight for the fix.
Whoever stole it had one hell of a joy ride... this is with a boring honda... can't imagine the fun someone could have with a stolen Z06

Hi Kilterman -

The brake issue - after I wash my cars the brakes rust up almost immediately, and the sound AWFUL until they rub the rust off.

The brakes should still work if rusty, if they don't, then now you know something about the "joy ride".

What part of a joy ride would precipitate a windshield leak I asked myself? The airborne portions of the excursion?

Is the title clear, or does it have an insurance stain on it?

The wheels are aluminum, and therefore cannot rust is they are factory.

All in all, after thinking about this car, I would most likely pass on the deal.

If I did , however, consider buying it, I would want the car up on a lift to inspect it, and I would have compression checks done etc. The small amount you would pay for that would be like cheap insurance IMO.

Good luck either way and best regards -

mqqn

Hey guys let me start off by saying thanks for all your opinions. I appreciate them all. I have a Corvette fanatic (whose also a engineer at boeing with my mom) coming down saturday hopefully to inspect all said things earlier but also check out the alum. block (because it came from florida and he worries about corrosion from the salt ) and also the clutch tires and all the little things that punk kids over look while staring at dreams

But if anyone has CARFAX (unlimited) I would greatly appreciate a report lookup!

You might also want a Chevy dealer to check to see if and how many times the rev limiter was hit. Good luck, if it works out you'll love it, if not, keep looking. Z06's rule.......
