Corvette C5 Key Mod
Well, everybody this is the new key that we are going to start producing very soon (about 7 weeks till launch). It has a GM key blade with the built in resistor and the case will hold our remote FOB's making this a fully functional one piece unit. We will no longer have to deal with our ugly standard keys. Below are some pics and a few descriptive items which were covered in the other thread ('C5 Key Mod'). I've made this one a poll as well so please vote on what you think and post any suggestions or responses you guys have.
**KEEP IN MIND THIS WAS OUR PROTOTYPE THE FINISHED UNITS WILL BE MUCH CLEANER**
Here are a few of the details that I can give out:
- There are going to be sets made to accommodate both passive and non-passive FOB's all C5 years 1997-2004 will be available.
-Since the FOB units will come with a new GM resistor key, which means that either you have to find out your resistor value (if you don't already know, this can be done by calling the dealership with your VIN) or you can have us call the dealership for you. We would recommend that you find out yourself since that is much easier. All we need is the resistor value so you can even use an Ohm meter if you prefer.
-The FOB will be available in 2 order methods, one being the whole unit which includes the GM key, the actual remote board, and of course the case. The second option for those who would like to save a little money is to order just the case and the GM key, and use your existing remote board. Installing the remote into the case is extremely simple since they "pop right in" you open your existing remote take the "one-peice board" out and put it in the new case. Both of the FOB's will come with detailed instructions and take less than 3 min. to complete (except for getting the key cut of course). The cases for both are exactly the same, the only different is that one will come with a circuit board and one won't (since you'll be using your own).
-The new keys that come with the case will have to be cut, now keep in mind this "DOES NOT have to be done at the dealership" it can be done by any locksmith or local hardware store (i.e., Home Depot, Lowes, etc.). So you do not need to send us your key, you simply have to get the new one we send to you cut.
-The colors of the case can be customized and all colors in which the C5 came in are available, or you could go with the standard black. The two colors that we are not sure about yet are Chrome and Carbon Fiber their availability will be determined at a later time. The back of the case will have the C5 logo and we are working on accommodating other logo's as well such as "Z06" and the "50th logo" stay tuned for those.
- There will be labels for the buttons, this piece was one of our first so its missing the labels. We will have the Lock, Un-lock, Trunk, and Panic labels on there on the finished units.
-There is a key ring as well, you cannot see it because of the angle of the pictures but there is something to hold onto your other keys.
-The pricing is the one detail I cannot give out at this time, but keep in mind that the quality of this product is going to be top of the line, we are using all original parts such as actual GM keys (no generic brands) and the case and all other components are of the same high quality as used by other automotive manufacturers (trust me we're paying for it). We are not skimping on any detail.
Also pre-ordering is going to start shortly, let me know if you guys are interested in that idea.

PLEASE VOTE EVERYONE, it helps us out a lot.

I do like the idea of having a 50th anniversary on it and it being in my color
I think you have a great product there but i feel that the cost is going to be really high

Personally I think that you will have a ton of sales if the cost is in the 50-150 dollar range. I dont think I would buy one if it were more than 120.
