1. I understand there are batteries involved.
a. How long do they typically last??
B. I understand that the entire unit needs changed not just the battery right???
2. Where are the tire sensors mounted?
a. If any one has a diagram of any kind that'd be great!!
3. What should be my approach to get this fixed for the least outlay?
They are inside the tire right at the valve stem. You can get them from a forum vendor, or several different places. You will have to take the tire off to replace, so find a good shop.
I believe Patches has pics...ok... I know Patches has pics...

Love the vette!!
Thanks Ya'll !!
I replaced my left front...got a rebuilt one for $60...try Nericreations.com.
There are other forum vendors that sell new ones for less than dealer cost. But after thinking about it, I know the battery in my rebuilt one is new, whereas the "new" ones may have been on the shelf awhile, plus the $ was right.
Easy to program...instructions in your owner's manual.
I don't remember which one it was but I checked and one of our Forum Chevrolet dealers quoted me $65 or $68. That was about 2 mos ago. Give em a call. Good Luck!
Probably not a lot of help.... but here is what one looks like -- Well, actually 4 of um - newer one 01-04 model..about 1/2 the size of the 97-00 modles.
Speaking of....anyone know where to get new "O" ring gaskets for the older ones?

Looks like GMPartsDirect.com has them for model year 2000 and before (They call them a washer. Parts manual also calls them a washer with "o-ring" in parentheses):
GM PART # 10268438 CATEGORY: All PACK QTY: 5 CORE CHARGE: $0.00 GM LIST: $2.05 OUR PRICE: $1.17 DESCRIPTION: WASHER
Prices above do not include shipping and handling.
I bought my 02 vert less than 10 days ago. I noticed one of the metal valve stem caps was missing. While picking up some touch up paint from the Chevy dealer, I asked if if he had an extra cap he could give me.
He told me I'd have to buy the whole sensor for $98.
I told him to forget it.......I'd just go up to the showroom and take a real close look at the wheels on the 05 they had on the floor.

Most good auto-parts stores will have the replacement metal caps (a couple of $ at most).

Yes, the sensors do have batteries and they normally last 5-7 years. There is a forum member here that can refurbish the sensor and put a new battery in, but I can't recall the name right now. The only other way to do it is to just buy a new sensor. A place like Fichtner Chevy or Fred Beans Chevy would be good choices.
No! I changed mine and did not loose anything except I had to resysc my FOB's!
If you left the battery out for an extended period of time you may loose stuff like that. You will put the stereo in LOCK OUT mode if you have the security function programed in! If you have it programed, make sure you have the code handy!
