Thanks guys. I do have mods. Blackwing. Stingers. Hurst. Dynotune for more horses (Vettedoctors told me that I was running too rich before he tuned it). The car has 29,000 miles on it and all scheduled maintence done.
I think it may be the cold air. I live in NYC and my Vette is my daily driver. Yes. LOTSA LOTSA stop and go drivng. And I always use Mobil Super (93 octane)
And my tires are at 30psi cold and when hot have reached 37 psi. Just happened today. (BTW, is that bad for the tires?)
I guess that's the answer to my questions.
Thanks for the info

The more air pressure the less rolling resistance BUT,, you sacrifice traction and promote excessive tire wear in the center of the tires! I set my tires at 28 read and 29 fronts (COLD) and get very even wear across the entire tread width and seems to get very good traction.

That's your answer, lots of low speed of idle has alot to do with how the Vette calculates your milage. It will make you numbers very low... even though your normal driving will give you the kind of MPG you would expect to get.
People that park their Vettes during the winter.... start'em up in spring look on the DIC and see.... 75 miles till empty, but have nearly a full tank. It's because they were starting it up in the garage to run.... but never drive it.... Lets see, your burning fuel, but going zero distance How many mile to the gallon does that equal
Only had mine a little less than two months now, but am getting around 20 mpg. Not having had it very long I like to feel the power every now and then . I was quite surprised at getting that good of mileage with my foot in it so often.
Man you have a lot of info here to digest. But if your not blowing smoke out the tail pipes then I would say your OK. I get 30 mpg when out on the interstates going for hours on end. In the city I don't even look. It would probably make me slow down.
I get over 20 mpg constantally around town. The only trip I have taken with this car, was to Florida when it had only 300 miles on it. The low for the trip was 30.4 mpg, and a high of 34 mpg. I did see 90 mph, more than once. My car is a stock 4004 six speed coupe.
Check your exhaust pipes for a heavy buildup of carbon that's one way of seeing of you are running rich. Could be a couple of 02 sensors not doing their job.
I'm running 450 horse and I get about 22 around town and 31+ out on the road @ 70 with the air on.
Perhaps it needs a road trip. 100 + miles at 70.
I had a 63 SW that I had to take out occasionally just to blow out the garbage.
Averaged 8mpg and 12mpg after . That's when leaded was 29.9 though.
Best of luck.

Must be nice! I cant even get a 2005 Z06 and you already have the 4004! I'm jealous!!!!!
I hope you arent going according to your DIC to measure MPG. Assuming that you are the one doing the math and the numbers are according to what you are saying, then there must be a problem somewhere.
I notice you'r in NY. Maybe it's the winter reformulated gas, it has an effect on milage.
Also maybe a faulty thermostat is not allowing the engine to come up to operating tempature (cold motor = less MPG.
i'm right with you DrValidus. i actually average lower than you, 12 city. i thought there was something wrong with the car too but as Bill Curlee stated, our state does indeed use oxygenated gasoline and it does affect our fuel efficency.
and as for highway driving, i also averaging 18mpg. but i'm sure you'll agree with me on this, highway driving anywhere around the NYC area is not equivalent to interstate highway driving. highway driving means the car maintains a constant speed (70mph?) for an extended period of time - unlike NYC hwy driving where we'll hit 70 then have to slow down because some idiot is cruising at 45mph in the left lane! or there's an accident/broken down car every 5 miles. on a good note, just yesterday i made a trip upstate and averaged mid-20's so i wouldn't worry too much about it.
Thanks man. Always good to know that you're not alone. And the cold engine start-up is also probably a factor. I usually try to warm it up to 50 degrees (oil temp) before I drive.
Thanks for all the input fellas. I love my Vette again.
I have never gotten more than 14 mpg on my z06...usually 12.8. My 00 FRC averaged about 14.6.
I like how you drive. I usual get over 18 and more like 26 on highway. It's my DD so i take it easy. But ever day i hit 100 at least once. I just try to drive very good so that when I push her I still get good MPG.
