I'm looking at getting a Hurst shifter but I've heard some people don't like them once they get them. Has anyone had this problem? If so, why did you not like the Hurst? I haven't been able to drive with one yet so I don't know how drastic a difference it makes. Thanks for any feedback, it is appreciated.
It makes a huge difference - I LOVE my Hurst shifter - it has a FAR more positive feel to it. I am using the springs that came in the shifter and could not be happier
I love mine (actually I have had two C5s and put a hurst in each).
It really makes the shifts firmer and more definite. Downsides are a little more noise (which can be taken care of) and some notchiness (that's just built in to the tranny and the stock shifter has so much slop you don't notice).
The nice thing about the Hurst is the adjustable springs. I'm not a drag racer so I rarely worry about missing a shift, so I have the lighter springs in there. It makes for a nice short, postive shift with minimal effort.
I have a B&M Ripper w/ a pistol grip shift ****. Love it.... it seems like you move it 1/2 an inch and you are from 1st to 2nd. I haven't missed a shift w/ it yet.....
I'm sure that you can't go wrong w/ either. I would suggest a pistol grip shifter (some complain about the effort required to shift), but i have no complaints whatsoever....
I've had the Hurst in my vette for awhile now, I had one installed right when they came out. Its one of the best mods I've made to the car. I haven't had any problems with it as far as noise or anything else.
I like my BPP shifter, as it is fully adjustable for different arm lengths and shoulder widths. No other shifter offers such adjustment. (16 possible positions). I have driven a Hurst-equipped C5 and it felt similar as far as its throw distance and effort. I just felt that it's position wasn't optimized for my physique. Still, the Hurst is a good low-cost alternative.

I love my Hurst. Almost had a heart attack when the shifter got stuck in 3rd gear and wouldn't move at all. But thank god for this forum, it was just a screw that got loose. So yes, definitely do not install the adjuster / stop screws.
It's great shifter. Had mine about 2 years....no noise, no rattles.
I ran it with the soft springs for about a year and thought that was an amazing improvement.
Although it is shorter than the stock shifter, I wanted it even shorter and cut it down about an inch last year and put back in the stiffer outer springs. Now it's perfect.

I couldn't agree more!!
I would recommend looking on eBay at the folowing auction. The seller is zrchris and he is great to buy from! His "buy it now" auction for a new-in-box Hurst shifter is only $159.50. You will not be dissapointed with Chris!!
