Default Garage Door Opener Question

I have fairly large (older model Genie) garage door opener switch and I have altered it with a tiny dip switch (1/16" x1/16" square) and attached long wires so I can velcro the sending unit itself in and unobtrusive place up under the hood of the car and just flip the dip for the door. I started getting cold feet about it because of all the communications wiring of the Vette itself. I just hate having that friggin box clipped on my visor, in the GB etc. Will running wires from the dip switch to get the opener to work mess up any comm of the car. I use it from the drivers seat already.

I would think that sensitive electronics under the hood would be well-protected from stray microwaves, so my guess is that there will be no problems. Now if you had a steel car, the signal might have a hard time getting out, but in your case, it should work fine. Dang, that's a tiny switch!

If it doesn't effect anything when you have it on the visor you should be safe most anywhere - they do not put out much (RF) power...

Yea the switch is really small won't be seen anywhere even if I hide it in plain sight. Gotta work it with your fingernail.
We have them on the systems I work on to set the timing on the equipment. There are 16 per inch so one is really tiny and will handle 24 volts easily. should be no problem with a 9 volt battery in the opener. Just going to bypass the existing switch.
A friend of mine somehow opens his with his cell phone. Waiting for him to return from a business trip to show me how it works. He's a wizard at electronic though. Me I can turn on a light switch 9 out of ten times.
Appreciate the come back.
Thanks.

We also use a lot of of photo electric eyes. I was going to rig a photo electric eye under my 06 screen and a reflector on the door, but they need a 24 volt system.

Appreciate the come back. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks.

Cool idea. I don't see why there'd be any problems w/ it.

I just went and bought one of those tiny transmitters that are on a Key ring. Since the wife also drives the car I have kept it in the ashtray so it is always there.

Also, there was a discussion of a replacement rear view mirror that included the homelink...

EG,
This is a Television commercial for Holiday Inn Express.
Claims that you are more intellegent if you stay there.
Some are really cute commercials and some are assnine.
Come to think of it most commercials are assnine.
Come to think of it I don't bother that much with any other channels than Spped and the History channel.
Good one on last night about racing safety and the Hahn device.

Jim,

Thanks. Walt (ptdrummer54) explained it to me in PM - I'm just a little s-l-o-w.

The problem is - I never, ever watch TV so I wouldn't understand most of the popular idioms that are related to television in any way.
Thanks for the explanation though.

The reason I had all those links is I was doing a little research myself for a microswitch or replacement for my clunky garage door opener.

By the way - the headrest your were looking for - CF member "Tombone" had a vinyl model for the C5 for circa $100. Drop him a PM if you are still interested.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these options? Not only does it look like crap on the visor, but on my vert not a good idea to leave it on there with the top down. I like the idea of the high beam opener, I assume it would work backing into the garage as well. The mirror is not a bad idea, but don't want to loose the map lights, nor the shifter light on the current mirror.
Anyone with experience have advise?

Thanks EG.
I'll get in touch with him, probably Saturday as I'm driving down to Louisville on business tonight and be back late tomorrow.

I use mine for business when I can cause they pay me 42 cents per mile. I make a fortune on road trips.

Will be going out to Reno in a couple of weeks. They make me fly and rent though.
I'd like a little jaunt to Reno though. The roads are great out there and you can make a Vette Purr.

Regards.

Hit the link that E.G. so kindly supplied. It isn't the lights themselves that actuates the opener it's the pulling of the stalk. You wire their transmitter to your brite switch.

I have High Tech photoelectric eyes at work (laser) and special reflectors for them (Omni directional reflectors etc.) and I'd like to rig up something like that to work, but they are 24 volt systems. If I could rig it all I'd have to do is pull up to the reflector with the laser and let it actuate.
I'll figure it out. Tired of messing with the bulky opened and don't want to get rid of a perfectly good opened motor and running gear.
