Thanks... I know the cost isnt much ($10.00 maybe), but with someones labor, someone could make a few bucks..
I would be first in line..Not too good with a soldering gun... ;(
I just did mine in less than one-hour; including time to remove the switches from the car. The only soldering required is to place a very small amount of solder to hold the resistor to the LED. The longest part is grinding down the LEDs with a Dremal sanding disc.
Sanding down the tip is easy, beveling the edges is tougher (more precise), but if you order the 3mm LEDs than this step is not required. Oznium now sells the 3mm wide LEDs; didn't have 'em when I ordered.
The only problem I had (and it was not really a problem) is that when I connected the driver switch, there were not lights. So, I removed each one, turned them 180 degrees in the socket and bingo, lights. (I wonder what the odds are that all four would be in 180 degrees off?).
If you still feel uncomfortable doing the job, and can't find anyone local; order the LEDs (3mm) and the resistors, pull the switches and ship the package to me. I'll solder them that night, test 'em on my car, and ship the switches back the next day. You pay for the resistors, LEDs and shipping both ways, and that is all. I would not charge for this. (Just in case order eight LEDs/resistors; I ordered eight and still have two left over...but you never know.)
Wow, thanks.. That would be great, i emailed my brother (he is the mechanic, electrician in the family) the link to the do it yourself. I am sure he can handle it.. I am the computer geek in the family but that save them lots of $$$ when their computer crashes, viruses,etc...
I might still take you up on it.. Thanks again... I love this forum!
You are in luck. Check back in about two weeks to my website and I should have this tech tip up. I am going home for spring break and will be doing a few more LED Tech Tips for everyone
I'll make a topic once all the tech tips are completed...also, if anyone has been wanting to see what the door panels look like in red, stay tuned because I will be doing my buddy's 01 MY Z06 in red.
