Default HELP C5 Convt top slashed

Some A-hole slashed the passenger side of
my C5 Convt top. The cut is quite clean ,but
is about 12 inches long starting from near
the window back about 4 inches from the
bottom. I have 500. deductible. Is there
a good way to mend this, or do I need to go
to the dealer, get my insurance company
involved and have a whole new top installed?
The rest of the top, window, etc are perfect.
Does anyone know what this should cost.
Thank you- I am a damsel in distress!

I would go for the whole top if it were me. Did they cut the headliner too, or only the top? You may also want to ask around for your area to see if any of the classic Corvette guys have recommendations for people to install tops. C1's - C3's owners usually know where to get this type of work done since they have likely had more tops replaced and restored their cars. Not sure I would got to the dealer myself.

Get it replaced....I doubt I could be happy with a repair....thats what insurance is for...this is also why I have the lowest possible deductible for comp coverage.....

Just out of curiousity, have you double checked your deductible? Being the in the bodyshop business for a long time, I have yet to see more than a handful of people that have 500 for a deductible for COMPREHENSIVE... and that is what your top would go under... (comprehensive= fire, theft, vandalism, etc, etc)

Most people have a 500 deductible for collision and much less for comprehensive.

Just for future reference, if your deductible is 500 bucks, you may want to ask how much your premiums are with a smaller deductible on comprehensive.

I say that because many times people bump their deductibles (for collision) up because the savings can be substantial. The savings from having a higher deductible on car rental and comprehensive is only a few dollars.

Just a suggestion.

Sorry to hear about your top.

I'd get the entire top replaced. Don't think you would be happy with a repair job. Sorry about the damage - too bad you can't take the car places and not have to worry about someone messing with it.

Default Cost to replace top

I know how you feel. Someone recently smashed the rear window on my '04 C5. It cost me $1,050 to replace the top(labor included). I didn't use a GM top but an aftemarket that looks identical to the original top. The cost of the GM top was $1,250 plus labor. By the way, the headliner costs extra. Good luck.

Contact some of your local Marinas and ask for references for local companies that make custom boat covers. They can mend it for you.

The only issue would be if you will like the way the mend looks.

Worth checking out.

Seems like good advice.

I feel your pain. Hope the fix puts your car back in good shape.

Let's not forget the other criminals on the Ravens - Jamal Lewis and Corey Fuller - a team of criminals in a city of criminals.

Anyway, I'd replace the top and be very careful where I park in the future. If you have concerns about this happening again, I would seriously consider buying a removeable hardtop for it.

If you look hard, you can buy a factory top in the $400 range. Try IM'ing SLamndvert...he may have some...

Then you'd have labor...

Sorry to hear about the damage. I would have to agree with other members stating that the top should be replaced.

Being a VERT owner as well this really concerns me as well.

Please do keep updated on what measures you take to get this resolved.

Why do people cont to have no respect for other people's property?

Good luck........and if I were you, Try to get the whole thing replaced cus its bad alone being in a vert when it rains (heard that some leak) so why take the chance with reparing it?

I would buy a new top and have a pro install it, the dealer doesn't do that kind of work too often, or at all. use a local place, contact a few street rodders in your town to suggest a good place to go.

If you need a headliner PM me, I have an extra one from my vert. Good luck and sorry to hear that.
