New Jersey, plates required were regulations have regulations! Give me the fine, I will not put front plates on. Now the good news. The cops in the souhern part of the state are pretty cool. They see me all the time, sometimes even get a nod. I don't have tinted rear YET, but will shortly.

A heads up to those that do, if you get pulled over, lower you window and place both hands on the door edge. Once the officer sees that you are a non-threat. Now you can respectfully discuss the situation freely. Here comes the warning, problably not written.

Default No Front Tag...

How many of you have been pulled over for dark window tinting? Did you then take off the tint? When I bought my Z it had a dark tint. I took it over to the tint shop, had the tint removed, got the car state inspected and then drove right back over to the tint shop to have my tint re-applied. So... has anyone been given a hard time because of their window tint, tag, etc...?

From recent experience in VA two weekends ago, a trooper pulled me for no front tag. He had another vehicle pulled over on the side of the road on I-64 between Richmond and Charlottesville when I passed him with the cruise set at 73 (65 mph zone). I looked up about 5 minutes later to the view of blue lights. He asked for my information, went to the front of the vehicle and came back and asked me about my front tag. I told him it was either under my passenger seat or at home and even presented him with the other "tag sticker" that you get from the DMV (it was still attached to my registration). His comment was that he "basically" pulled me for improper display of a front tag. My guess is that if I had argued with him, I would also be looking at a speeding ticket for 8 mph over as well as the no tag.

As for taking the ticket and driving around "violating" the law. A little to rich for my blood. The $25 fine is no biggy, but then put the $55 or so court cost on it and your looking at $80 - for a stinking plate (ridiculous). Just needed to vent.

Ordered my smoothie plate frames from Ecklers the same day but they still haven't come in. So now I'm carrying the citation and the order slip in the console to "defend" myself if I get pulled before I get that front plate mounted.

Just be careful, if they see you, you may get pulled.

Still drive it like you want, but even minor things will cost you a minimum of $80 or so for each violation.

Be thankful you're a consultant and not a cop. There are people out there just looking for a cop with an attitude. It's definitely a two way street in this country when it comes to attitudes.

How about giving our other guys in uniform the support they need.

we don't have front plate laws, i would probably be upset if i had to put a plate on the front of my zo6. the tint however i agree with, i don't write tint tickets but it is not only a safety issue for a cop not to be able to see inside a car, but for the person driving the car as well. if i can't see inside your car i'm going to be ready for a fight. the thing most people don't realize is you are going up so somebody that you have no idea who they are or what they plan to do. the next time somebody walks up to your car from behind, think about how easy it would be to take a shot at them before they knew what was going on. MAYBE then you will understand why i feel this way. i work in one on the highest crime rate cities in the country and in the top five for murder...you have to remember not everyone has as good intentions as you do.

You gotta remember though. Even with no tint it would be hard to see a guy reaching next to his seat to grab a gun or something. We can't make laws based on the 'lowest common denominator' of society or we all loose. To preserve our freedoms we must deal with evil through strength rather than less freedoms and more regulation. I in no way want to detract from the danger faced by law enforcement but if you look at statistics it's more likely that you'll be a crime victim if you're an ordinary citizen rather than a member of law enforcement.

I appreciate your comments, and am glad to see that this discussion has been very civil.

If I may ask you a question, Hypothetically, If you pulled me over and I imediatley rolled down both windows and sat still with both hands on the wheel until instructed otherwise. Would you still see me as a great threat to you?? or would my actions help make your job easier??? I do realize anyone is a potential threat, tint or not. Do you think these actions would affect how a Leo would act in regard to the tint issue?

As I said these laws do not currently exist in Ga. However I do and always will do what I can to help LEOS jobs easier. I don't drink even a beer and drive and I do occasionally exceed the speed limit but no more than any other car on the Atlanta Autobahn and on the occasion that I have been stopped I have never argued or been disrespectful to the LEO, you are after all doing your job.

I think that is very responsible of you and if everyone did this I doubt window tint would be that much of an issue in other states. Although, when a felon is fleeing the scene in a car that does not have window tint it's easier for someone to get a description of the occupants.

hmm have been pulled over doing 120+ got off, cop was cool.

I have been pulled over and had a very good relative help me get out of some/all except one

Don't have tint yet but will shorly, no front lic.

Have been pulled over by DPS, for no front lic and gave a warning when the law came out ,still no plate

Been pulled over by DPS, for 85+ in a 45mph and was racing a bike and Z28, got the ticket with an open container, 6 pack on the floor, only one open was on my way home.

I know many police officers, I respect them as long as they respect me and if I do get a ticket so what, that is what lawyers are for.

Not ALL of us have done it. I drive with zero blood alcohol at all times. Whether it is my bike or my vette or any car, driving under the influence is just plain stupid. Having said that - I know lots of people do this, and you're right about wanting to stay under the radar with the police - just be careful!

Thanks, and you make a very good point about getting the description of occupants. I had not thought of this angle before now.

Interestingly enough this thread is making me rethink my position on window tint. I'm not saying I am going to remove mine just yet, but I would have gone with the lighter tint after considering some very valid points made here on this thread.

The last time I was pulled over,I politely dissagreed with the speed the officer claimed I was traveling at and got this responce at the top of his voice" are you calling me a liar"

That responce and the recent drug scandal of a local precinct has changed my viewpiont of police from friends to annoyance..

No plate and tinted windows for me as well..

ok you guys down there have it easy! i live 30 mins east of Toronto. here the cops/goverment are not a tuners best friend... when i had my bmw i had a light black tint (very light) and no front plate, got pulled over about once a week because of my age... that part does not bother me , what bothers me is when the young cop comes and starts asking me questions. what do you do for a living? how can you afford this at your age? and i obviously know what they are thinking, im a drug dealer... i got pulled over about 5 times for no plate,in the time i owned the bmw (1 year) and every time i got a ticket of $110 and thought wow this wont happen again. wrong. if a cop up here see's a modded car wether (spl?) it be a fart can civic or a blown Z06, they will pull you over 1 out of 5 times if even going the speed limit. our goverment doesnt allow us to import cars that are not over 15 years, they are trying to pass a law right now saying no performance modification can be done to the car... alot of BS but what i really dont like are the cops in my neighbourhood. they know where the people around here hang out on a friday and saturday, about 150 cars on average a night and they come up every time and start writing tickets even though we are parked in a Tim Hortons parking lot (with permission) and are not doing anything.By the end of the summer there was about 20 cars on average. i just got pulled over today with my winter beater (RX7) and this lady cop called 2 other officers just to use the machine that measures the decibels of your exhuast, i was 2 over and got a $150 ticket. i have about 3 friends that are cops and i can honestly say even comin from them, out of the whole force 100+ there are maybe 10 that are not looking to fill quotas from cars on the streets. it is ridicilous and i was i could get my damn visa to come to the States!!!

The no front tag thing has happened a few times, but I think I have had 3 warnings to 1 actual ticket. In the end I didn't make any changes to the car.

I have had three warnings in my life for no front plate on three different cars and each time I had to put the plate on and show the police so they could sign off on the ticket otherwise it's a $60.00 fine. The thing that I think is unfair is I know a guy with a '72 Blazer with a snow plow on the front who hasn't ever been stopped for no front plate and he hasn't had one on it in 15 years. I think the police tend to pick on sports cars.

Just to put things into perspective we had two single moms arrested and put in jail for unpaid parking tickets.

Does anyone think the authorities have lost all sense of judgement?

Maybe the front tag makes it easier for them to pick you up with radar!

My view is the Leos are all about money! Don't even want to talk about the car thieves that get released befe they see the inside!!

amen brother. I used to have tremendous respect for leo.(Being that i was raised in a law enforcement family/community) That was till i started driving and more got the vette. I got pulled over 3 times the first week i had the Vette. There reason "no plates" but i clearly had the dealership tags still on. Then i would get a slew of ?'s like whos car is it do your parents know your driving it?

I can recall one instant where i was on my way to an appointment for my Senior pics a cop was turning on to the road next to me at an intersection and turning his whole turn his eyes where on me.(BTY from the front the dealer registration thing is clearly visible) I picked up my cell called my mom and told here i am going to be late cause i'm about to get pulled over. She asked me what i did What could i say. "i'm sitting at a stop light and a cop saw me in MY car." anyways cop had gone down road made an illegal u turn and lit me up right as i made my turn. He said you have no plates yadeyadyeda 30 minutes later I was allowed to leave making me extremely late for my appoinment. I hate hate LEO's I will have respect for them again when they have respect for me and the general population and realize there pooo stinks too!

Received a ticket for no front plate for $75. I went to court had it lowered to $55.

I'm tired of wondering if I'm going to get pulled over everytime I see a bored officer. I now have my plate on
