Back in '55, when I got my first Vette, everybody driving a SportsCar waved. Back then, it was mainly the MGs, Jags, Healys & Triumphs because there were few Vettes out there. But, the Vette and the wave survived were most of the other brands didn't.
Been waving since my '64 A/H Sprite was my first new car

Yep, I remember. All sportscar owners waved in the '50s.
Over the years I've been a off-roader, a sailboat owner, a *** bike owner and currently own a couple of Harleys. Many of these owners continue to wave to each other today. Jeep Wrangler owners are big wavers. I'm glad to read it continues to be a Corvette owner tradition.
..rickko..
PS. I should be waving in about two weeks when my new C5 convertible arrives!
If you really want to appreciate this topic, it's probably worth understanding that, as posted above, waving is much more than a Corvette thing and true car enthusiasts the world over having been doing so since way, way, before the Corvette was ever conceived.
If you're aware of the above, then there's no need for instruction from the owner's manual, it's not q square box on wheels so, of course, there's a wave.
Sadly, it's rather common for car salesmen of many different marques to mislead the uninitiated into believing that theirs is the only make that has this "special" and "unique" tradition of waving to other owners.
Here's an article regarding the wave that helps to put things in a much wider perspective and, hopefully, will encourage people to appreciate the true spirit and intent of this common courtesy.
