Hello and welcome. Your gona the Vette and this Forum. Most car washes will not get the road film off. Thats only one reason most like doing it by hand. I have gone to quarter car washes, at off times, with a gallon bottle of hot water, a bucket and my car soap. Did the car by hand and sprayed it off. I pick a time when no ones around if possible. The manager has seen me there and never said anything to me about it. I would not do that if there was a waiting line or all the bays were full. Its not as good as your own driveway but faster. Just my $.02
and if the car is only "dusty" instead of dirty, I will sometimes just use plain water. Even the best of car specific soaps will leave a bit of residue behind. Besides those soaps haven't done a thing for my split ends!
It was cold today (40 or so) in MD and I did mine as usual. Warm water with Zaino carwash to do the wash and hose to rinse. Used the leaf blower to knock most of the water of of her and then microfiber to finish. She looks great and I don't have to worry about recycled water, dirty towels and the other liabilities of commercial carwashes. Another coat of wax tomorrow morning...
I,ve spent hours on this site every night, since finding it, it's great. Bought my first vette last week and haven't got a good nights sleep since then. 01' navy blue coupe, 18k, pics soon. Because of the weather being so cold, is a touchless carwash an option? Thanks to all.
I have to be honest too...Being deployed and when I get a chance to hit the internet cafe or lounge I will surf this site and catch up with everyone's additions, mods and stories. Buying my VETTE was a great chapter in my life, but chatting with you all and reading about your experiences is a privilege and time I look forward to as much as possible.
I have a Hand Wash Car wash near my work. while it still has the tracks and moves the car along, there are a bunch of workers with wash mitts doing all the cleaning. Once I checked the rail width and saw it didn't rub, I use it in emergencies. They also go over the inside as well. Beats frostbite or a dirty car!.
When it's under 32 and my car is dirity I go to the carwash (touchless). I would rather go to a car wash then be seen in a vette covered in mud or bird poop. But when its warm I like to had wash the car.

Welcome. This site can be addicting but it is a great place to learn about the car and to chat with fellow Vetteaholics. I use a touchless wash system a lot - great for getting the wheel wells and undercarriage clean. Some owners refuse to use them, but so far I have had no problems with them. Do what you feel comfortable with in terms of washing the car.
