Pull Key - Wait 10 Seconds
) Thanks a lot for the great advice and the time you spent on the research. I will let the Chevy dealer know tomorrow morning about putting it in. chocoholic, before I took it in, I tried my other key, and the same thing so the key is not the problem.
silver6spd C5, you are having the exact same problem I am so stay tuned, maybe you can benefit from all of this.
JCR_Indy, I don't think that was the situation at all. I know the owner and I trust him. BTW, he is a fellow forum member.
I called Thunder Racing and they will refund my money when I get the CLB back to them. I had the battery checked at Auto Zone and it tested fine. So I headed down to the Chevy dealer. Their records shows that the Column Lock recall was done back in 04. So, I told them to just fix it. "The saga continues....... tomorrow"

If your steering wheel still locks when the key is removed the dealership did the wrong recall. That is the bottom line.
If you just tell them to fix it since they say that the recall was already done your repairs won't be covered by the recall and you may be facing a several hundred dollar repair bill.
When you get to the dealership show them that the steering wheel still locks when key is removed and ask them how that can happen with the recall locking plate installed. It would be impossible to lock if the recall was properly performed the first time.
Good luck !

But, after completing the work, the tech found that something was rubbing on the steering column, so they want to check that out in the morning. But, no charge for the re-recall work.
I want to thank everyone for your help. You all are a great bunch of guys.
Thanks again everyone for your advice. The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

The question itself should have given that away.As others are saying, its a common problem and you should be getting a RECALL notice form chevy.

Mark,
....I think you're missing an interesting (?) point. The recall was 'done' on the vehicle. I've got the paperwork that states it was done. And Dwayne's dealer saw the same thing when they pulled up the service record for the VIN.

I strongly urge every driver with an A4 to grip the steering wheel and attempt to turn it back and forth with the ingition key out of the ignition. If you can't move your steering wheel you need to head to your dealership and have them do the proper recall. The locking plate must be replaced.
That is right Jeff.
And the best part is that my dealer didn't charge me for it and they took care of it correctly.
If I had to look for anything to complain about, it would have been that my car got dusty from the road work they were doing in the parking lot. But, it had been a week since the last wash so it was due. You da man Jeff!

I've had this issue as well but you don't get the "wait 10 seconds" message, all you get is a flashing "security" light on the dash and you have to wait 3 mins before re-inserting the key.

Thanks a lot guys. Dwayne
