Came to a sudden stop on the freeway, got hit, then hit the guy in front of me. My left rear fender has a little buckle in it, and the front/rear bumpers are scratched up. My girlfriend was taken to the hospital, cause she was complaining of chest pains. Thank God she was OK though.
Can these fenders be fixed or do they have to be replaced? Here's a pic where you can see where it buckled.
I'm pissed off, since she only has 4000 miles on her, but what can you do?
I think since the other insurance will be paying i'd hold out for ALL NEW GM parts to be used, and since the front bumper, sides and rear, i'd almost push for a full new paint job....including proper work, valued at at least 6,000 dollars and up for a good paint job. But that's just my oppinion, Best of luck, glad to hear everybody's ok!
Chris
Also, remmeber you don't have to accept their insurance companies initial offer.
A buddy of mine got hit a few weeks back in his 98. It seems that you may have faired a bit better then he did. This happened in a parking lot, this A-hole didn't look where he was going... and crunch. Here are some pics...
Here is the side damage.... Cam. Phone pics... sorry they are so blury.
The car on the far right is what hit him....
Here she is on a flat bed.....
Now from the outer damage... it didn't look so bad.. but look at the tierod... and how bent it was... needless to say.. sometime things are worse then what they appear.

I'g get a new fender for sure. As to the bumpers, they can probably be repainted unless they are tore, but see what you can get. Good time for the TigerShark package if they replace them. Just remember that the body shop may have to blend in other panels when doing the repair.
When I got rear ended there was a lot of damage that was not really visible - but once they got things apart the damage was there. With SMC it takes a lickin and (seems to ) keep on ticking, but the paint may be cracked, the shock absorbing material behind it may be crushed, along with other possible damage.
Find the best shop in your area and get it in there - they can work with the insurance company to resolve the damage. The other thing you should study is something called Diminished Value - it is basically the amount of value your car has decreased just because it was in an accident.
I'm glad you and your GF are OK - now lets get the car fixed up too.
boy that sucks. Sorry to hear about it, but at leat no damage to you.
I hate that feeling right before you know there is no chance to escape. This weekend on the way to the track I had to stop short because of a truck doing something it was not suppose to be doing. Anyway I started to slide towrds the truck and I look in the rearview and a Van is coming towards me. I got ready for the impact, but luckily the van slide to the left of me and I stop about 2 feet from the truck.
Thanks for the advice and the well wishes for the GF. Hopefully the damage isn't worse than what it appears. Anyone know of a good repair shop in the Los Angeles area? First time I've ever been in an accident.
This is what happened to the guy in front of me. I guess you could call this a "fender bender", no?
You mean you've never had traffic suddenly stop in front of you? Especially when the road is straight and you can't see ahead of the vehicle in front of you!
"thats rough...sorry to see that happen ...were you on the 405?"
Northbound on the 5 in San Clemente. We were heading home from spending the weekend in San Diego for her B-Day. It was great, until...

Here is why we all pay so much for insurance. You have a right to have the car put back like it was. That does not include having the whole car painted. If it doesn't match or blend right og course, but to just say demand they paint the whole car is absurd. .02 deposited. Glad you are ok!

Of course! That's why I don't follow too close. Further, driving a car with good brakes forces one to follow with even more space, since you have to add distance for the poorer performer behind you.
If you EVER hit the car in front of you it is 100% YOUR fault. Just like this young and inexperienced Corvette driver found out.

I was totally stopped at a red light one time (second car in line) and someone rear ended me - which forced me into the car in front. Was I following too close? Sounds like you still have some experiences ahead of you yet...
