I had a 98 coupe MN6 and loved it!! I could NOT see why anyone would pay extra money for one of those Z06's,,,, that is until I drove one!!! Once I drove my 02 Z06,,, it was a MUST HAVE item!!

Once you get in it,,,you wont leave without it!!!! I get 30 mpg on the highway, take it on trips, take it to the food market ect. The coupe has more room but you will learn to make the best out of the trunk! I wouldnt trade mine for anything less than a newer C5 Z06 or a 2006 C6 Z06!!!!!!! i have my sights set on a 2007, C6, Daytona Sunset Orange Metalic Z06.

My Z06 IS a DAILY Driver and I dirve it like I stole it!!

A common mod to FRC/Z06 vette's is to install a trunk partition. There are many brands and types. You can make one yourself for about $30 (if your talented) here's a great resource for you DIY types - http://www.fixedroofcoupe.com/howtod...tition&pages=8 and other neat mods for our cars, or you can buy a ready made one from several of our vendors. They can cost from $100 to close to $350. They all quell most of the road/exhaust noise that comes from the rear of the car and get transmitted into the cabin via the opening to the trunk area. I bought the $100 carpeted 2.5" foam partition from Eckler's.

Take a look.

Also the Z has NO INSULATION under the carpet;

which contributes to more noise getting into the cabin. Many folks remove the carpets and add a material called DynaMat or B-Quiet or Brown Bread and some even use a product available at any home improvement center called Frost King. I started off using DynaMat and ran out. So I opted to finish my project using Frost King. The combination of this added insulation and the partition makes the cabin in my Z quieter than my 99 coupe. Take a look:

This does add some weight back into the car, but I doubt 10 to 15 extra pounds are going to be noticed by the average driver out on the street. But the greatly reduced cabin noise is appreciated everytime you turn the key. I'm going to do the area behind the seats and console I like the affect so much. Maybe I'm getting old, but I don't need to have my senses asulted just because I have a high performance sports car?

I have B&B PRT's and most of the exhaust sound is attenuated, but at WOT I still hear them wail just fine. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Tom

Bill C, that is one nice ride you have there. What kind of exhaust is that?

I went from a 93 Coupe DD to my 01 Z06. It is a night and day difference. I love it!! If you want the speed, get the Z. Who cares about taking off the top. I had the top off my 93, 4 times in 6 years of ownership. I am MORE than satisfied with my Z as a DD. And the fuel economy...16.5 MPG in my 93 (LT1, no mods other than exhaust and air intake), 20.7 MPG in my 01 (no mods other than air intake). Both of these numbers are averages on the same stretch of road. I drive 28 miles each way. As for storage space...the Z has just as much if not a little more than my 93 (not going over the rear area into the window area, including the space where you can stack stuff up into the window area, then the 93 had more.) Golf clubs fit a lot easier in the 01 as well.
Good luck!!

Sometimes I wish that I had gotten a Z06 too but out here in California, I take the top off several times a year and its a beautiful thing to take the top off... I'd say that my top comes off 20 times/year... at least...

Get a coupe and add 55 HP w/mods.
Also a little suspension work.

I read the new Z06 is a coupe because it's more aerodynamic than the FRC. That is also why the C5R is a coupe.

I've had my 2003 Z06 for a month now, using it as a DD. It's an awesome car. I even look forward to going to work in the morning. The parition kills a lot of the exhaust noise. You'll have fun with either one though. My commute is mostly on through streets, the gears are wide enough that even stop and go isn't a problem. No matter what you get, you'll love it....
