Default Cooper Tires

I just purchased a set of Cooper ZEON 2XS for my car. I have been using Cooper tires on my other cars for years with no complaints. I'm sure there are others out there that have also enjoyed this brand. I'm not pushing them (yet) but I think they are worth looking at. I don't believe they are sold by our supporting vendor, but if there is an interest in these tires I'm sure they could be. Just give them a "look at" TireSavings.com has them. Thread Wear is 280...Traction is AA...and Temperature is A. Check out the price. Hey, at one time Kumho,Falken and a few others were not widely known.

How do you like the Coopers? I own a service station and we sell mostly Cooper tires. My distributor just sent me a floor sample of the Zeon model and the first thing I thought was , hmmm, this might be a nice Goodyear replacement for my Vette. In general, the whole line of Cooper tires is excellent in performance and price.

I haven't installed them yet.....I still have a few thousand miles on my Bridgestones, I already had the money set aside for tires, so before something else came up (like the price of tires in general) I bought a set. As for Cooper tires riding hard (other post)........I have them on my Buick and my S10 Blazer, I don't find that at all. They are extremely good in the rain, and I get excellant milage out of them.

I too have run sets of Cooper Cobras on past cars - I liked them and they held up very well. Keep us posted when you actually put the tires on your Vette. Would be interesting to hear your comments. Always looking for alternatives.

I had Coopers on the Camaro. Fitted them in 2000. Took 2 nails in the meantime which wrote offf 2 tires. The other pair are still going strong.

Seem like good hard wearing tires at a good price.

Limited sizes though, e.g. no Z06 sizes, largest width is 285.

Default Cooper Tire Website

I found an interesting item on the Cooper tire website @www.coopertire.com They offer a 45 day "Test drive" of the Zeon 2XS tires! Also priced a set in Stock C5 sizes at www.tiresavings.com and they are under $700 shipped with a Road hazard warranty. Not Bad!

I looked through the TireSavings website - looks like the ZEON 2XS tires are W speed rated. The OEM EMT's are Z speed rated. How much of a difference does that make?

its still a Z rated tire W has a higer speed rating if i remember right...........M 81 mph 130 km/h
N 87 mph 140 km/h Temporary Spare Tires
P 93 mph 150 km/h
Q 99 mph 160 km/h Studless & Studdable Winter Tires
R 106 mph 170 km/h H.D. Light Truck Tires
S 112 mph 180 km/h Family Sedans & Vans
T 118 mph 190 km/h Family Sedans & Vans
U 124 mph 200 km/h
H 130 mph 210 km/h Sport Sedans & Coupes
V 149 mph 240 km/h Sport Sedans, Coupes & Sports Cars

When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified. That ultimately caused the automotive industry to add W- and Y-speed ratings to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high top-speed capabilities.

W 168 mph 270 km/h Exotic Sports Cars
Y 186 mph 300 km/h Exotic Sports Cars

While a Z-speed rating still often appears in the tire size designation of these tires, such as 225/50ZR16 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h; the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph, 270 km/h maximum speed.

225/50ZR16 in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h
205/45ZR17 88W 168 mph, 270 km/h
285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h

Most recently, when the Y-speed rating indicated in a service description is enclosed in parentheses, such as 285/35ZR19 (99Y), the top speed of the tire has been tested in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h indicated by the service description as shown below:

285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h
285/35ZR19 (99Y) in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h

As vehicles have increased their top speeds into Autobahn-only ranges, the tire speed ratings have evolved to better identify the tires capability, allowing drivers to match the speed of their tires with the top speed of their vehicle.
so a ZR with a Y at the end is rated for excess of 186

Great stuff!! Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I just looked at the EMT tire pamphlet which came with my 03 Vette. The front tires carry a 89Y rating, and the rear tires carry a 94Y rating.
