Default Transmission Fluid change?

Dear Forum members:

I've seen alot of conversation on the Forum about the use of Amsoil products. Specifically, reference was made to changing the transmission and differential fluids. They mentioned that the benefit of using Amsoil was a quieter and longer lasting transmission. I have a 2002 coupe (17,000 miles) with a manual transmission. My questions are:
  1. Which specific fluids do I use?
  2. How many other Forum members have made this change?
  3. What have your results been?

I've been using Redline fluids in the transmission and differential of my 2000 6-speed convertible for four years now. Very happy with the results and performance.

This should be an interesting thread.

In about 4 weeks, my Z06 will be going through its spring upgrades. As part of the upgrades, I am having installed a G-Force Transmission 9310 mainshaft, steel 3-4 shift fork, G-
Force Transmission
1-2, 3-4, 5-6 billet slider hub keys, and the ratio of 6th gear in my MN6 trans changed from 0.50:1 to 0.563:1. The shop that is doing the work is Liberty Gear. They manufacture spur-type transmission gears for Pratt and Miller's C5R and C6R racing transmissions.

As part of my trans upgrade they suggested that I have them install Castrol Syntorq LT transmission fluid. This is a manual transmission fluid that Castrol developed at the request of Chrysler for the Viper's 6-speed trans. Both GM - part number 12346190 and Chrysler - part number 4637579 have it as a service part. It is expensive. The best place I have found to purchase it is at QUAD 4 x 4, LLP in Roberts, Montana - (406) 446-2427 - http://www.quad4x4.com at $25 for two quarts, plus shipping.

Good luck with your decision.

I recently changed all of my fluids, and flushed anything that could be flushed (see this thread for what I used)

1) For the transmission I used Mobile 1 ATF (4 quarts) and for the differential I used Mobile 1 75W-90 (2 quarts) + GM Additive (1 bottle)

2) I believe numerous members have made this change.

3) I didn't notice any change from the differential fluid change (didn't expect to.) I did have a noticeable change from my new transmission fluid. I notice my shifts are slightly smoother, most likely because it was never changed or changed a long time ago.

Definitely worth it for the mechanical necessity and peace of mine...especially if you have a good mechanic who charges you fairly

I also have an 02 coupe, but with 13000 on the clock.

I changed the differential and trans with Royal Purple Synthetic fluids at 12000 miles.
Max-ATF in the trans http://www.royalpurple.com/prodsa/matfa.html

Max-Gear in the differential http://www.royalpurple.com/prodsa/mgeara.html

The car is quieter and smoother since.

I am running the Amsoil in both the tranny and the rear. Been happy with the results to date. Shifting seems better than it was before.

I switched to Royal Purple a few months ago too. great product, although the only thing I can compair it to is the factory dino fluid. I'm sure that any good synthetic fluid (Mobil 1, AMSOIL, Red Line) will work great
