Default key fob Woes....

Replaced battery in fob last year, everything worked fine. Started twice a month in winter. Now,upon spring "gettin ready" the fob was dead, I did the rountine of fob learning, and it works ok for a day, then the next day its dead again, does the batt. go dead that fast or am I missing something ? thanks for any help...

I had problems with my key fob. Took it to the dealer and they said I needed a new fob. Apparently they don't last forever.

Time for a new fob. Look for a bargain on Ebay. I've had 2 of them do that in the last 5 or 6 years. If you wait a while longer, it will get to where it will only hold it's programming for a couple of minutes or so.

GM part number 10253839 . GMPartsDirect sells them for $86.12 shipped. You can also check with Fichtner Chev on Monday at 1-800-234-5284. Maybe they can beat that price. HTH

You might try bending the battery contacts so they put more pressure on the battery. Be careful not to bend too much. What happens is the battery loses contact when the fob is banged against something. This causes loss of sync with the computer. Worked for me.

Another thing that can cause the FOB issue is a bad or weak main 12 Volt battery. To check this theory out, pull up the DTC codes that are storred in your DIC. If you see a ton of codes and a whole lot of NO Comms (U 1000) codes, there is a very good chance that you battery is weak.

This happened to my 98 coupe! When you crank the engine, if your 12 volt battery is marginal the battery volyage drops low and some of the MODULES drop off line for a milisesecond or so and if your Remote Function Transmitter (RFT) is one of them, the FOB will loose sync! If you constantly need to re-sync your fob, a weak battery could be the issue. Been there! See if you have any codes in the RFT module.
