Hey guys--
with this merger, do you feel using Texaco is just as good as using Chevron gas for our cars?? I just paid $2.40 a gallon for gas (Chevron) in Charlotte, NC on Saturday--- Just looking for some opinions and trying to see how namy use Texaco over Chevron----Thanks!
Texaco has been making Chevron fuel for 4 years now when they merged, all refiners make raw fuel it's the additive that makes fuel differen't, each brand has a pattern on there additive, any refiner could produce the same fuel with the additive, Chevron calls it Techron, Texaco calls it clean systems three, we call it V-power, these three are top grade fuels
I'm in my 50's, been a car guy forever, There are large fuel terminals here in Jacksonville, my friends son drives a tanker truck and says the additives are added as they put the fuel in the tanker trucks, and the brand differences are not what they were years ago. We have a local discount brand and I see regularly from my office the same delivery tanker deliver to the Discount station and the Shell across the street? (Hummm). I run any old thing in my F150 and my 1928 Ford (5to1 compression Ha!) I am a new, first time Corvette owner and want to run quality stuff, but I think it's a "Who Knows" situation these days. Hope someone out there really knows the answers on Gasoline these days.
Some may call BS but I was using Shell and was not getting the performance I was 3 weeks ago when I bought my Vette. Switched to Chevron and it is back. I noted a significant difference. Will stay with Chevron.

Understand, and totally agree. However, is the Techron additive the same additive as Texaco's Clean System three? Techron is a proven cleaner for engines. Working with GM, we researched this a few years ago, and all the chemicals on the market, only one cleaned the upper combustion chamber effectively, and that was Techron. In fact, we printed a bulletin recommending the use of Techron on some four-cylinder engines.
So, I'm just curious; especially since it appears Texaco is on the march here in TN, having stations popping up like dandelions in the spring; while BP's are going the way of the dinosaur, Exxon's staying steady, and Chevron's few and far between.

It would appear that The Chevron has the Techron and that's what our cars love.....I'm leaning towards the Chevron---

I will not run Texaco in any engine I have. Had a bad experience with it once and never went back. Besides, around here it is the most expensive gas you can buy.
Now Chevron is buying Unocal (don't know if that includes the Phillips 66 and/or Conoco brands also) for Unocal's oil reserves. 91 Octane in Northern California now up to $2.80-$3.00 (actual $2.99 9/10ths but who's counting).
I've regularly switched off between Chevron and Unocal. Right now I'm using Unocal since experiencing the gas gauge problem with Chevron. The gauge problem goes away for about 5 fill-ups then comes back. I'll then switch back to Chevron for another 5 fill-ups. I wonder if they'll come up with one brand name: ChevronTexacoUnocaPhillipsConoco?
The fuel additives are not the same in Chevron and Texaco. They are marketed, blended & sold as separate entities (brands). As far as the merger with Unocal, you won’t see a change for a year, depending on FTC approvals. I burn Chevron and I’m pleased with the performance.
I thought Shell bought Texico over a year ago?? All the Texico stations were closed and turned into Shell stations when it happened...atleast here in San Diego.

The change you saw in service stations to Shell was part of the FTC approvals. It had nothing to do with Chevron buying Texaco. The Federal Trade Commission is charged with protecting the consumer by making sure that no one single company have a monopoly on the market.
