The parking brake on my 99 isn't holding. I had it adjusted a couple of years ago at the dealer and it was covered under warranty.
Same issue came up over the weekend. The dealer says that they will try to adjust the rear wheel brakes, but that they will have to put in a new parking brake (brake lever and all --- $400+) if that doesn't work.
Sound reasonable or are they trying to finance a vacation?
You can readjust the parking brake, and it will be fine. I had to replace the E-brake handle because it broke internally, and they are not rebuildable. It is possible that one of the cables are bad but I'm not sure why the handle assy. would need to be replaced.

If the e-brake mechanism on the console has some broken pieces in it, then yes, they will have to replace it. I had this done to mine, thankfully under warranty. Try adjusting first, and if that doesn't work, look into the console area.
Darn hopeing I would not have to replace my handle. My large female relative sat on mine trying to get into my car. Ever since then the button will not click and hold. I was going to take it apart to see if I can fix it but now I know I need to replace it. Thanx guys
moral: Keep anyone over 300+ lbs. out of youy car, no matter how nice you are trying to be there actually is a weight limit on the drivers door sticker, thats what I get for exceeding the passenger compartment weight
