Humbled Vette Owner
It is all good........
Bwaaaahahahahaha. Thank god for guys in Ferraris. I bought my vette from a guy who had to make room in the garage for his new Ferrari.
I was so proud of my first car, a '74 Camaro Type LT (anybody remember those?). Thought it was the best Camaro in the world. Then the new '75's came out with some new features I didn't have. I was a little jealous. After a while, I finally realized that it's probably always going to be that way...newer, better cars every year...
Enjoy what you have and don't worry about the rest.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

C5/vert. Vette period, nothing esle matters...Same here. Lots of nice cars out there and in different leagues (price, style etc.) but I'm prefectly happy with the car that I waited most of my adult life to own.

Sorry, but you sound a little insecure to me.
My dad's 512TR and 550 are both very nice cars but still rather have the Vette. My old Business partner had a Blue 355 vert. Beautiful car but even stock I would take him both on the street and at Putnam.
Plus with the only possible exception being a Lamborghini, no other car is near as fragile. They break ALOT, and really for the money don't have the performance I would expect. You you are surpassed by a stock C5 that can take weekend after weekend of abuse. That's kinda pathetic in my eye's.
I could have bought a Modena when I bought the C5's because my Dad is a multiple (BB512i, Testarossa, 348, 512TR and 550) Ferrari Owner and Rick at Lake Forrest Ferrari said he would hook me up, but
I just could not see spending that kinda cash for the results. I really don't need the Ego boost some(most) seek with the Ferrari.
That said the new 430 is fairly impressive, as long as the repair history follows the Modena (finally a quality Ferrari).

Peace!!
My car is a 2002 Quicksilver coupe. I have added a larger air bridge, Corsa Exhaust and a Z06 air box with a K&N filter, 6M with only 15K on the speedo (I have a Vararam cold air induction system and a velocity stack on order). The car is awesome as it is. I live and work in Italy and belong to the Aviano Racing Club...a group of young military dudes with plenty of neat small ricer type cars and a friend has a Millenium Yellow 02 Vette, very similar to mine. The club was taking a trip to the Ferrari Factory in Maranello late this past summer, with about 10 of us in convoy. We travel the speed of the slowest car which happened to be a Peugeot 206 with a top speed of about 120 KPH or maybe 75 MPH. My friend in the Yellow Vette was leading the pack and I was at the tail end. As we got closer to Maranello we started seeing plenty of Ferraris zip past us on the autostrada...you can only imagine my frustration at letting them pass and me sticking to 75MPH. I was sure my friend in the other Vette would latch on to the back side of one of the Ferraris and see what he could do against Italy's best! He didn't, so I told the dude riding with me that, when the next Ferrari passed us, I was going to find out what the Vette was made of. Sure enough, shortly after that, I spied a red (aren't they all) Ferrari coming up fast behind us in the passing lane. There were other cars passing the convoy as well at only about 80 MPH, and the Ferrari had to slow down until the way ahead was clear. When the Ferrari passed me, I jumped in right behind him...saw that it was a 348GTB, later found that it could be from 320 to 360 HP, but much lighter than the vette. Anyway, as the cars in front of us peeled off, out of the passing lane, I heard the Ferrari down shift a couple gears and I knew he believed he was going to leave me in his dust...but, not if I can help it! Ok, down shift to third, running pretty high rpms and the Ferrari is just a couple feet in front of me with miles of Autostrada in front of us and no other cars in sight. This is it! He punches it and I know he's hitting 8 grand or more, the Ferrari engine wails!!! and I'm dead on his butt! The HUD tach shift light blinks at 6K and I power shift to 4th, I'm still dead on his behind and I have to lift the throttle slightly to keep from running into him. I see the light blink again at 6K and I shift to 5th...too scared to look at the speedo, but, we're flying faster than I've ever driven before...the sign posts on the side of the Autostrada are only a blur in my peripheral vision. The Ferrari takes the middle of the two lanes, knowing I'm faster than he is, but not wanting to concede and let me pass. I move 3 feet from his bumper and I see in his face in the rear view mirror, the second he decides this is not a great tactic (was he surprised to see me staying with him?). Reluctantly he moves over. He does, and I easily pull beside him, look him in the eye and wave: bye, bye, and back on the loud pedal...there's pleny more acceleration left in my Silver bullet, and I easily walk away from him. All the time my partner (drives a toyota 4 banger, 4 wheel drive pickup), is yelling you got him, you got him, whip his A##! And that's exactly what I did . I let off the throttle when the Ferrari is about 10 car lengths behind and he and I both understand that he's just had his butt kicked by an American bow tie Chevrolet costing only about 1/3 as much as his prancing Stallion. He and I both see that he can't run any faster and I let off the throttle. Then, and only then, do I take a glimpse of the speedometer as it slows down past 165. My hands are shaking, my stomache is in knots, but I have just lived through the best race of my lifetime and whipped one of Europe's best! The red Ferrari slows to about 90MPH and passes me, but never looks over (I'm sure he was mad enough to eat the steering wheel!) We stop on the side of the road and wait for 15 minutes for the rest of the car club to catch up (honest). When they do, they knew I had beat the Ferrari and for that day (and some to come), I am the club hero. It was awesome, people. I'll never forget this race as long as I live! Corvettes in Europe have no need to be afraid of some of the so-called autobahn burners...Corvettes are fast cars. I have other adventures to share as well and will do so later. Vettes are one awesome car!

I didn't have all the excitement, but I saw a McLaren SLR this morning at the local shopping center
450K.Suddenly I had this urge to park 2 feet away from his driver side door, even though he was parked with no cars around him
