WOW, i just did a research paper on these guys. GM has spent MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars trying to differentiate these brands. There's a reason that people are buying the non-gm associated cars. WHY ruin a good thing? And why waste all those millions of dollars you spent to differentiate these brands.
I may have to change my mind, Gm might be following the airlines into bankruptcy if they can't get better management!
I agree....
Why on earth would I want a "GM" badge on my SAAB, HUMMER, or Caddy? Kinda cheapens it, don't you think?
As far as the Corvette, it is difficult to find on the car where it was made by Chevrolet much less GM. Why is that? I always wondered why the Corvette was too good to be associated with Chevrolet?
Which begs another question. Lets imagine that the Corvetted did not come out in 1955, but rather was first introduced as the 2005 model (the current c6 design) Do you think it would come out as a Chevy? A Caddy? maybe not at all?
AND they'll raise the price by $500 to cover the cost of the emblem that they beat a supplier down to a loss to have the privelage of supplying to them

That's easy enough - the Vette was introduced in 1953.
I think what you're saying is that if the Vette were a new model today, would it be a Chevrolet? Yeah - why not? Chevrolet has a rich heritage in high performance automobiles and racing - what's wrong with Chevrolet having a "HALO" vehicle? The Vette really only would fit the Cadillac line up because of the MSRP - but the car really doesn't fit their image.
Maybe they should make the Corvette a brand of it's own.....

The funny thing is that I own a 2003, a 50th Aniv. car....you think I would be able to do the math
Actually, a typo, but the question is interesting. The XLR is a caddy, basically a vette with a better intierior. I would bet that if the vette came out today, it would be the XLR roadster and the XLR coupe.
There is nothing wrong with having a "HALO" vehicle, the Vette and the Viper are 2 stellar examples. Although, I dont think that the GT50 was a good idea, they priced it so far out of reach that it will always be looked at as a advertising gimmick.
Maybe it's just a way to sell more GM stock. Believe it or not, there are plenty of folks that don't know that GM makes all those brands of cars. Joe Public sees "GM" on the side of new car, he may not be able to afford the car, but that brand exposure may influence him to buy the stock. Makes all the stockholders, especially the board members with the crazy stock options, richer.
