Chevrolet has always been about cars for the common man - bang for buck they always tried to position them in the top 40 percentile without the top of the line price tag
Corvette was a unique punt - it started off aiming for a readily affordable pricetag - and over the years its popularity/development has seen it evolve into the marque it is today
I heard they were planning to spin Corvette off in the early ninety's - but one guy aptly argued, it was one of the Only profitable divisions for the GM stable and the flagship conetations bode well for it and the group - they argued that to spin it off would leave the GM brand without a flagship product and in conjunction with poor company performance send very bad signals to the market
the things i read about that (above); also seemed to highlight the Corvette mantra (performance/excellence) was not nec. 'counter' to the regular chevrolet line but perhaps on a different (high perf)plane -its stellar performance (on the track, and on the Chevrolet balance sheet) (rought spots in terms of volumes sales;aside) thru the years could be the only reason its been kept in the Chev stable (it would survive being spun off as its own label certainly...but GM stands to gain much more by having it fly its flag and ...fly it brilliantly)

the badge noted in the article will be placed on the side -- i have to say its a load of bollocks, does anyone know the GM internal email convention? i say we email " Mark LaNeve, who took over as head of GM's North America vehicle sales and marketing last month.
GM named LaNeve to his new position shortly before the automaker announced that it would post its biggest quarterly loss since 1992."
and let him know -

WOW, i just did a research paper on these guys. GM has spent MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars trying to differentiate these brands. There's a reason that people are buying the non-gm associated cars. WHY ruin a good thing? And why waste all those millions of dollars you spent to differentiate these brands.
I may have to change my mind, Gm might be following the airlines into bankruptcy if they can't get better management!
Chris
Chris,
Send them a copy of your paper! Maybe someones "light bulb" will go on!!
Someone said only if we can get Cadillac to service are cars.
In Europe the Corvette emblems are on the Cadillac dealer signs.
Corvettes are being sold and service now at Cadillac of Europe.
Is this just the start of something.
I agree....
Why on earth would I want a "GM" badge on my SAAB, HUMMER, or Caddy? Kinda cheapens it, don't you think?
As far as the Corvette, it is difficult to find on the car where it was made by Chevrolet much less GM. Why is that? I always wondered why the Corvette was too good to be associated with Chevrolet?
Which begs another question. Lets imagine that the Corvetted did not come out in 1955 (a'hem), but rather was first introduced as the 2005 model (the current c6 design) Do you think it would come out as a Chevy? A Caddy? maybe not at all?
Interesting point! Lets just hope it would'nt have been as a Saturn!
