Here we go again, not me, they are profileing. Part of the job description is writing tickets. Profileing in law enforcement is based strictly on race. The rule most LEOs use is 15-20 mph over. 69 in a 50, thats fair.
I have had my share of tickets. Every one upset me and I could rationalize why I should not have gotten any of them. Bottom line...you were going 19mph over the posted limit. You got caught. I feel for you and know how you feel but, you were breaking the law. What if 3 people robbed a bank and they only caught one of them? Should he be let go because the others were not caught? Sorry but, if we play we sometimes have to pay.
You may of been going the pace the traffic was going, reasonable and prudent...so as to not cause an accident.
This is a reasonable defense...but I would opt for driving school and no points if applicable
Arizona is considering a law that, as I understand it, would eliminate most speed limits. The idea is to reduce the difference in speed between vehicles. The speed at which you could drive would be set by traffic. Drivers weaving their way through traffic would get the tickets. Anyone else hear this, or did I dream it?
I would go to court and ask for a lesser fine/points or threaten you will go to court (as a last resort). Most towns are willing to lower it instead of going to court.
You can also try to get the write-up from the LEO and see if he missed anything like tuning the radar (though I am not sure if that applies to laser) and if he has the proper training to use it (which sometimes they don't). Maybe you will find something that will get you off....
I mostly if not always do 10-15 over, haven't got a ticket yet ( knock on wood). But $250 for doing 19 over. What state do you live in. Here in Illinois, if I'm not mistaken if you get caught doing 20 and below, it's a $75 fine, doing over 20 is $120 plus schooling. Sorry to hear about that ticket.
Your fines are close to dead on but you can get traffic shool (4 or 8hr class), supervision, or a straight conviction at any speed. Its totally the judges call, what he usually does is has your record read off and decides based off of that. Now even if you have never had a ticket before if you get caught to much over then they are obviously less kind.
How was he profiled? Some of you really need to get a grip on reality and put aside this "OMG, the whole world is jealous of me because I have a Corvette" attitude.
News Flash, most people couldn't care less that we're driving a Corvette, it's just a car and there are many, many, many more expensive cars than a Corvette on the North American highways.
Steel wasn't profiled and pulled over because he was suspected of speeding. If anything, the "profile" he met was one of someone who was speeding. To his credit Steel doesn't raise the "poor me" flag, doesn't rubbish the police officer, and gets mucho kudos for that.
It's tough when you get singled out of the crowd but we all know the "risks" we take when we speed and he, unfortunately, was the one getting the ticket. Was it "fair" that he got a ticket? Probably not. Did he deserve it? According to the rules of the game, yes he did.

Well I work in the hospital, pretty much in the ER, now I know a few police officers local and state who are pretty linient especially if one is only doing around 10 over. I'm not saying this is right, but IMHO over 90% of drivers speed once in a while. Again, not saying this is right, but I guess that's why they are trying to implement the left lane as speed only lane or as they say, no slow pokes around- I guess they found out that this is one reason of accidents. I am assuming that you are a law enforcer. In your opinion and I hope you don't mind answering this- how fast does a driver go before you decide ( OK that's enough- I'm going to write this loon a ticket.)

AZ's law is like that! Speed not reasonable or prudent, not prima facia speed. Speed limits are just a suggested speed unless you're on a federally subsidized highway. It's been that way for over 30 yrs that I know of. This also means you can get a ticket for speed less than the posted if conditions warrant it.
OK, so you got a ticket for 69 in a 50 zone and don't think it is fair. That is only 38% faster than the limit. So just how much over the limit do you think is too much? At what point if you were an Officer would the threshold be set at?
Because you would do exactly what? Threaten to "fight" it? God I love some of the posts on this forum!!
I've profiled every speeding vehicle I've ever stopped during my career. It's all about the kind of cars people drive and has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they were passing other cars like they were standing still. I always give "non-sports cars" (unless they're red of course) a break because I've learned over the years that only Corvettes get involved in crashes.

Sorry they picked you out of the crowd. Good advice to see if you can go to a defensive driving course and keep the ticket off your record. Otherwise, you may want to take your chances in court.

When I was in my 20's I'd be all PO'd whenever a police officer pulled me over for a traffic violation. However, as I've gotten older I try not to sweat the small stuff. Besides, the comedy defensive driving courses aren't too painful. I seem to attend them annually. Last month I got pulled over while driving my daily driver, 04 Honda Civic LX. The Officer was very polite and gave me a written warning. He mentioned that on my record is many driving safety courses, so he did'nt want me to have to attend another one this time. I told him this was the first time to be pulled over while driving this car.
Bottom line is; You drive over the speed limit, and eventually you will get caught. The LEOs are only doing there job, so be nice!
Steel, sorry it was you. Somone was going to get pulled it seems, and I'm sure your car did stand out. But as you admitted, you were speeding, and you respected the cop. He's doing his job, and you helped with your attitude. Hopefully a driving school will help with the points.

I guess that makes me a profiler as well. I am also guilty of profiling drunk drivers because every single one I have busted has been drunk. I guess I am profiling drunks only........oh and humans because every single one of them to the best of my knowledge has been human. Shame on me.

Does this mean the boys were profiling me in my KIA last night when I recieved a $205.00 fine for speeding? I'm joking I was speeding in my hotrod KIA and got caught, sucks to be me but I did the crime so i'll pay the fine. And yes your all reading that right speeding in a KIA sounds pretty funny don't it?
