ipod wireless use

and raves about it. No exposed wires and you can control the iPOD witht he factory controls. I am sure there are similar products, this is just an example. I know I am going to get one when I buy my iPOD. The single disk is killing me and a lot people say the GM/Delco 12 disc changer will not play most CD-Rs.
Just my $0.02
If starting from scratch, I'd go the alpine route. To be honest, I'd rather spend the $$ on a performance mod, or maybe a hometheater mod where the sound quality is more of an issue for me.
BTW, even in a large metro area, I can find a frequency weak enough to get it to work. To me the most frustrating thing is using it when traveling. What was a vacant frequency in one city often isn't in the next which means you have to retune.

My 2 cents worth.

I have tried several FM modulators, but have been unsatisfied with the sound quality.
I hard wired my iPod into the factory head unit (backed by an 800 watt Kenwood amp and Rockford Fosgate speakers) and this works great. It doesn't charge the iPod but I can plug in an adapter if necessary. When I get in the car I plug in a 3.5 mm plug into the iPod, set the controls for the 12 disc changer (replaced by the iPod's wiring) and off I go.
My 2 cents worth.

It is a fairly simple install and it gives you wired connections. You will have to control the tune selection from your ipod. You can pick up power in the arm rest and have tunes forever.

Check out the audio section for more information. I'm looking into a hardwire kit as a future installation as well. Unitll then, I'm doing wireless.
I'm using it too. I drive back and forth between Philly and AC and usually have to switch the broadcast station back and forth as well to account for the different radio markets. I have the windshield imbedded antennae and find that the signal is better if I clip it to my visor (since its closer to the antennae). It gets a little choppy in the cupholder. You have to play with different station and the volume on the iPod for the best signal. Typically having the volume between 50 to 80 % works best for me. Be careful, if you have the volume all the way up the iPod the signal seems to be too rich and will blow your speakers - I already have one ratteling. Feel free to PM me with any questions.... You can hard wire it fairly cheaply using 1/8 jack on top of iPod but output from the jack is not line level and there is no controll over iPod.
I spent the $190 for the iPod2car to get the best sound (line level), control of iPod from headunit (on, off, next song, previous song), and for automatic charging of iPod. I am very pleased with it although it is a bit pricey.
Also note I read a post recently where the iPod overheated and needed replacement from storing it in the armrest.

forget a new head unit - why buy a head unit for advanced
graphic equalisers when your ipod has 15 stage equalizers and can preset by album or song even!
PPS - the iCruze is out now ... but they are ******* - ive emailed them several times about corvettes and never heard a word back... the ipod2car is in my baby and i love it!
Ipod2Car

or coming soon
iCruze

RFHayes hooked me up with the ipod2car
thank you (he's not selling them but he had an extra one at the time, otherwise id be oblivious to the them and still waiting for the iCruze)You just need it, and that black cable in the pic
(10$ cable from logjamelectronics)
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/pacabgm10.html
(pay NO ATTENTION to the picture of what 'that cable is' at the logjam web site, that picture (pacabgm10) is so scary looking it nearly put me off!)
edit: I know its a bit pricy but the ipod2car is certainly cheaper than the icruze -- having said that the cost is in the boxed unit NOT the Corvette-marrying-cable-changer ... if you got one and a corvette harness (pacabgm10) -where the harness costs like 15 bucks or so, you could get several other harness for other cars and just thru that in when travelling in different vehicles....
- if you have the cd_changer in the hatch (or even if you just have the pre-wired cd-changer cable put there, and unconnected by the factory then you are good to go) if you dont have the cd_changer or the cable pre-wired, you'd (i think) just need to get a similar but slightly different cable to connect the ipod2car to the delco-head unit up the front
this black cable ....
why have it? Well its basically a gender changer -so the original cd_changer cable that is currently can connect to it and thru it - the ipod2car
Its supposedly a Y cable : it has two 'outlet sockets' once you insert the cd-changer cable into it - however once plugged, only one of the subsequent outlets (on the Y split theme) has pins in it
doesnt matter you can easily unplug and the stock cd-changer cable is as it was .. or you , if you had a cd_changer installed, unplug it from the black cable and return it to the bottom of the ch_changer

to make a long story long (and since its for the author of this thread, i hope this hasnt been seen as a hijack... if so, i apologise... i guess the ipod2car itself could merely have had a compatable socket, to allow you to take the pre-wired cd_changer cable and connect it directly but this its compatable with more vehicles (the black cable then is the bit that becomes automobile company/model and year specific)
nothing short of awesome - once i realised some of the pins in that little black lead werent properly pushed forward and some of the contacts then werent seating properly works great:- the ipod has a better, more functional equaliser in it than the basic 3 option delco unit
and i love having my music collection entirely in the palm of my hand

the head unit lets you goto the next track or seek in a song, or switch ''cd's'' (playlists)
the method you need to adopt is to create 6 or 12 playlists depending on the cd_changer that you 'did have' and the head unit selects a playlist as if its a cd in the stacker...
output is terrific and while you can control it a bit via the head unit, i treat the mini-ipod thats on the long cable as if it were it just a simple remote
the iCruze had an extra big read out that you can mount otherwise prob the same...
