I recommend that you strip out ALL of the interior! Believe it or not, it does NOT take that long and it is not difficult! While it is out, you can find your leak and fix it and you can install some Dynamat or forstking insulation!

Let me know what your thoughts are on that.

If you dont see any during the water test, the HVAC air box may be the cluprit. It wont leak until you run the AC or Defrost for quite a while. Once the condensation level builds up, it will be flood city!

This was a good read. I just checked mine because there seemed to be a scant amount of water under my car today when there should have been more. after pulling off the rubber drain I found debri in there. I snipped off the pinched end but now I can't get it back on from the top of the car. Does it need to be replaced at all? Is the question. If so, it'll have to wait until I get it back on the ramps.

I also sprayed lysol in the vent and it smells better. It was getting a little musty lately.

Should I put the drain back on?

Most of the time the condensation backs up and gets the carpets and jute underlayment on the passengers side wet. The water soaks through the jute and runs to the rear of the carpet under the seat. The jute will start to mildew and stink to high heaven!! The best way to deal with this is to remove the carpet, shampoo the carpet, (I used a Little Green Machine) and let the jute dry out in the sun.

I removed the rubber drain tube on my 98 and must not have put it on good enough. It fell off. One year later it is still off and does not seem to effect the operation of the drain. I would install it because it keeps the water from running down the fire wall and on the exhaust.

Please let us know how you make out.

The pictures are exceptional, but how in the h$&@ did you get it the little rubber hose out? I've taken my battery out and the plastic surround and still can just barely get my hand back to the hose. What's the trick?

Anyway,,,, water can enter the passengers foot well from a number of areas. Looks like you have zeroed in on one of the leak paths. Here are some of the other areas that will give you problems sooner or later!

One is the HVAC air box condensation drain. Patchs has already provided you a detailed drawing so,,,,,,,,,,,,,I will give you a picture of the rubber fitting and some other details.

Here is the fitting and a close up of the crimped area that gets clogged:

If you want to remove the fitting and cut off the crimp (RECOMMENDED) here is where it is (HIGHLIGHTED AREA) on the fire wall. The flashlight beam is shining on the area where the fitting lives.

When this fitting gets clogged, condensation inside the HVAC air box will back up and spill out into the passengers foot well. The BCM will get damp and freak out!

The drivers and passengers side door frame area has a leak path on some C5's. My 2002 Z06 leaked on the drivers side. Here are some pictures of how GM installed some putty to solve the leak problem:

Drivers side upper door hinge.

Here is a picture of the passengers side with OUT any putty. It has not leaked YET!

If your carpets are wet I STRONGLY recommend putting the carpet and jute underlayment in an area where it is warm and dry soit dries out completly prior to reinstallation!

Boy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, its a tough install. If you have headers,, your most likely NOT getting it from the bottom! I used two LONG screwdrivers and worked it off the fitting, cleaned it and worked it back on. Theres DNA in there as I did squeeze my hand in there a few times and repositioned it.

If you dont have headers, from the bottom is s snap!

I have water leaking in on my passenger floor I cleaned the utters under the wiper motor they were clogged shut , ran water thru the cowl panel and. Water poured out thru both sides and no water inside , we had the car on the lift and poked a long screw driver into the a/c drain utter to open it up since I can't get on it due to the headers , after today driving in the 100 degree weather a/c on full blast the floor is soaked and when I make a hard left I hear the water splash around , what do I do next ??? Can I remove the a/c drain cut it and reinstall without any problems

The HVAC drain is still clogged. Its more than the rubber 90 deg fitting. Pull the fan and feel inside the evap plenum and see if its got crap in it. Theres a small hole that the condensate drain into. It has to be clear>>

Bill,

How did you access the evaporator box drain? I tried from the top but my hand seemed too big. From underneath?

Pull the blower motor out and access the evap chamber thru that opening. Use a mirror and a small light and you can actually peer into the chamber and see the coil and box floor.

I am thinking that the rubber 90 degree elbow comes off from the engine compartment side, but I had trouble getting my hand down there to pull it off. Any suggestions?

In my case, I have no indication that it is plugged, but I would like to take the elbow off an check it.

Thanks

I guess it would be ok to just leave the rubber end off we could hardly even see it when the car was on the ground or lift but I think I can get something in there to pull it off , going to remove my blower motor and clean that out
