If your car has a factory HUD and it is an insurance job, make SURE they give you the correct windshield - the non HUD cars do not have the coating on them. (even though in the real world it is hard to tell any functional differnce.
Your wallet. My insurance company told me my winshield was $1400 to replace. They wanted to fill the chips. Fortunately, the dealer said there were enough of them to cause glare and possibly an accident. The dealer said they always replace the seal, rather than reusing the old one.

I've actually seen a HUD display installed on a Vette with a "regular" windshield and it worked just fine. Maybe Chevrolet is saying it requires a windshield with a special coating just to charge a few extra bucks.

Last month I got a rock chip on the passenger side. Rather than replace the windshield, I opted for the chip repair (Safelite did mine, Novus is the other that does these.) Insurance paid 100% of the $64 cost. Since I had sand pits in the windshield already, the small blemish where the chip was (looks like a waterspot) isn't that noticeable. Call your insurance agent and ask him/her about repair v. replacement options.
A couple of years ago I saw a TV segment related to improper windshield repair and, if I remember correctly, the windshield could potentially cause you a problem during an accident (it popped out or something horrible like that). I don't remember their advice, other than to 'ensure somehow' that the job is being done correctly without shortcuts.
As for me, I had a guy come to my job and replace my windshield in the parking lot ... DON'T DO IT! The job stunk .. he got adhesive all over the place (on everything) and used the wrong trim molding around the windshield. My car had all gloss black trim molding and he used a matted finish. I ended up having the entire job redone at one of their locations and it seems to be fine .. the only thing is that I have no way to know that they did it properly such that I can avoid the issue I stated at the beginning of this post.

Have SAFELITE take a look at it. I've had MANY chips for miles on the interstates. Safelite has always done a professional job. They say they can repair most cracks that can be covered by a $ bill. Worth looking into!
