Yes, you can both decrease shift time and increase shift firmness with programming (Predator/HP Tuners/ LS1 edit etc.) however....
... you would be increasing transmission line pressure significantly. A shift kit does the same thing but differently - by directing and redirecting fluid within the valve body. There is a small increase in line pressure but nothing like programming.
Increased line pressure is not a good idea in the long term.
Why is this thread still alive??? Just buy the d@mn $120 Transgo Shift kit, install it and have fun.
My car came alive when I installed mine - with stock TC and 2.73:1 gears to boot.
