Default INSURANCE providers...

Can you guys help me with some options, by suggesting who, what & where you might be insuring your cars with?

We currently have State Farm and my agent is bitching at me for having 'Comp' only on it for most of the year.

We put under 4,000 miles a year on the car at this point
( we're way too busy with work aren't we ! )

Thank You!! Larry

You can try Sneed Robinson and Gerber of Memphis Tenn, they insure specialty cars! They have ads in a lot of car magazines!

Having recently moved to NYC from the UK, I can't believe how much insurance premiums are over here and the bewildering list of liability limits one has to select. In the UK, the liability limits are all pretty standard between underwriters and the only thing you have to worry about is what kind of cover you want (3rd-party coverage with Fire & Theft or fully comprehensive that covers everything including glass damage). In the UK, I was paying less than $1,000 a year for fully-comprehensive insurance on my C5. In NYC (and as a 'new' driver here, despite having 12-years driving experience with a claim-free record in the UK), it's looking like I'd have to pay around $5,000 a year!!!

Anyway, vent over... if your car is not a daily driver and is kept garaged when not in use, you might want to check-out Parish Heacock or Grundy. Their premiums are as low as $400 a year.

Cheers,
Ian.

I have a limited use policy through Leland West. American Home is the underwriter. Very competitive rates, but with tight restrictions. You can elect to limit your drive to either 2500 or 5000 per year. No driving to work or school. No racing or moding the engine significantly.

No claims here So I can't give you a read concerning the quality of their claim service, but the Leland West people are very customer sensitive and helpful. If you're looking for a limited drive policy, I would get a quote from them

Try Hagerty. I have my C2 insured through them. Costs me about $300/year for agreed value coverage with 5K mile/yr limit.

your right..... insurance in NYC imho,is CRAZY, thats part of the reason i moved to new jerz. im paying wayyyyyyyyy less for full coverage and i can actually keep an eye on all my machines too. i would never have owned a Vette and live in NYC, not having my own garage to park it in!
the only bad thing now is just having a jerz license plate, puts me in another "bad driver from jersey" catergory when i drive into NY

I've had good luck with Progressive, although I've never had any claims with them.

Hagerty won't insure a Corvette that ins not at least 20 years old. At least that's what they told me.

I may get some static on this, but I love Progressive. They used to have a not so great reputation, but now they are in the top 5. I've had to file with them (over 10k in repairs/damage) and they are excellent to work with, put the beast up at a bodyshop that did outstanding work, and they didn't rape me afterwords.

I have Wawanesa. Mine is a daily driver and I upped the liability to $100,000. Have my homeowners policy there too. There is no "extra" or seperate coverage for glass and I've had my windshield replaced once already.

I'm paying $800 a year

If you happen to be a vet, USAA is tough to beat.

As some of the later replies imply, don't get too caught up on just the price of coverage. Any company can take your money. How well a company handles claims when they're made needs to be factored in before you can make any determination of value.

I have never dealt with any company as good at providing service as USAA. Unfortunately, they're not available to everyone.

Both our '64 and '01 are insured with American Hobbyist. Agreed to value ($35K and $25K respectively) for a shade over $600/yr total.

I originally had the '64 with Haggerty (for three years - no claims) and tried to get the '01 added when we bought it earlier this year. They said if my DDs were not newer than the '01, they couldn't cover the '01. So, I took both cars to someone else who would. Haggerty made a business decision and so did I. Other than that, I had no problem with Haggerty.

This is good to hear. My current company has been excellent, but their homeowners has gone through the roof and my agent is recommending Progressive. My search on the internet yielded a lot of people who more disatisfied with them.

I have both my '04 CE coupe and '02 Dodge 4X4 diesel through Progressive. It's $1800/yr and they are BOTH daily drivers. They are within $50 of being identical premiums! Not bad in the insurance raping capitol of the world (Texas).

I have USAA. You have to qualify to go with them, but if you can, they are excellent.

Just curious - why would your insurance company say a thing just because you have comp only on the car most of the year? They still make money and why should you carry coverage you may not need. Doesn't sound like a real customer oriented insurance agent to me.

USAA here also. The best.....hands down. Everything is done online, no questions, best price. Add a car, remove a car, change the coverage....all instant w/ a printable coverage change, date, etc.
