If you read the forum post you can see that not very many people like the look of the new model vett. I think thats why the C 5's are still selling so well. No one I know is willing to pay what the new vett is going to sell for ($74,000) when they can buy 2004's for 40K. Thats just my thoughts.
According to my local Corvette Dealer, C5 owners are holding out. Supply of C5's for sale are low in York, PA. The result is that the C5's that are available are selling up to $3,000 more than retail. I bought my '04 last year in August for $37,500 with 400 miles on it. Today, with 6000 miles it would be put on the lot for just over $40,000.
I agree that those of us with the very last generation (C-5) talk bad about the new generation (C-6) as I am certain the past generations did also. I feel they are pricing the new ones to high. My 2003 stickered for about 43K I did not pay that much since I know the salesman and the dealer really well. You can not get a C-6 equipped with what I have except in the low 50K's.
I do agree that we all will at some point in time accept and start to like the looks of the C-6. As of right now my 2003 Red C-5 looks better to me. One more opinion; the new red is not as sharp as the Tourch Red, sorry GM and C-6 owners the Tourch Red is better.
Hi Jim, I was going to wait and buy a C6. I posted the latest web pictures on my desktop. After a few months I realized that I just did not like the looks of the C6. Because the end of 2004 was approaching I ran out and made the best deal I could on a new C5.
Last month my neighbor sold her ‘03 C5 coupe and picked up a loaded C6 coupe. She had a C4 prior to the C5. She has some Vette history.
Her comments have been very surprising regarding her C6.
She has stated that....
She does not feel she is driving a Corvette. The car feels like a Cadillac because of lack of road feel and lack of engine compartment and road noise in the passenger compartment. The sound of the exhaust is non-existent from inside or out. She is in the market for an aftermarket replacement ASAP.
Also, the interior has lost the Corvette look because of the deletion of the passenger side grab bar. She likes the C5 interior.
From the way she talks I would say that she is definitely disappointed in her C6.
Not that I dislike the styling of the C6 but I prefer the styling of the C5 much more.
I drove a C6 last week and felt the same way. The C6 has been domesticated. Sure it has 400 horse but the interior is too sparse. It no longer feels like a cockpit of an airplane. I could not get comfortable because it sits you up in a higher postition. I was happy to get back into my C5. I remember thinking how glad I was that I did not buy one.
When people stops staring at my car then I will buy another one
-Mike
I get a lot of stares and thumbs up when driving my C5. I did not get a second look when driving the C6. I watched the special unveiling that GM had for the C6. They invited hundreds of members of the Corvette clubs around the country. They interviewed many members after the unveiling and there was not one member interviewed that was excited about the new design.

You should drive to Ohio and buy a truck load of C-5's and take them back to PA and sell them.

your 03's sticker was 43K? What is it stripped? My 02's sticker was 49K.
Just saw a nice blue C6 vert today. Was able to look it over pretty good. Very nice looking car. Now, I have a 99 black coupe and it looks "sinister" coming towards you with it shinin nicely and the running lights on. I love that car. But, I would not turn down that blue C6 vert (with Corsa exhausts and Z51 suspension included).

Correct me if I'm wrong , but I believe a lot of those sales may be to NEW Vette owners. ( I am judging this by the people I know who have a C6, and have never had a Vette before)....something is drawing them in.....
Hell, they don't even know what "the wave" is....
I was on a Corvette cruise today where about 10 Corvette clubs met for a lunch cruise. There were over 170 Corvettes there ... 2 of them were C6s. There are 150 members in our club ... and I don't know anyone who's bought a C6 ... although I'm sure some have.
I like the C6 ... but I certainly don't feel that I have to buy one. People ask why I didn't buy a C6. I say I probably will buy a 2006 ... in 2008. In the normal course of events I'll end up with a C6. But I certainly don't feel or see the excitement in the marketplace toward the C6 such that I have to run out and buy one.

That is the same thing as was said about the "new" C5. Chevy had made such a world class car that people who did not know a thing about Vettes were now buying them. Nothing wrong in bringing new owners to the Vette world
Been tracking the prices of Vettes here in the greater Cincinnati area for a few months fot grins and giggles and have watched C5's appreciate [I mean big time](Probably due to Spring and Summer) but I'm sure that the prices will fall for Fall and Winter.
Was looking at an 03 Z at a local dealer and took my daughter back to show it to her three days later and it was gone. Sold to someone who came down from Chicago. They had 4 on the lot than none. I'm sure that more will arrive with better pricing for the Winter. The salesman offered me one heck of a TI on mine for a C6. I thanked him and walked away. Rather have a Cobalt.
I don't want to go around with my lights hanging out.
C5 prices are on their way down; many go for high teens/low 20's around here. "Course there's always the guy who bought one brand new and tucked it away with a few thousand miles that still believes its worth sticker still

I'm really happy to hear that because I want there to be a C7!!
to be honest I hated the C6 at first, but now I am starting to like it. I really like the interior over the C5, but I am still not sold on the headlights.
I also like the idea of no key entry, but that would not sell it for me...
Thats funny, the headlights are the only exterior C6 item I like. I do like its interior but I odnt buy vettes for Interiors. I really like the look and feel of the C6 shifter but rather than buy a C6, I will just put its shifter in my C5
Other than that, The rear looks too retro and every time I see a Mada RX8 I think of the c6. The C6 too short on horpeower also. The new Z06 will be nice with its 500 hp 427 but that will still look like a C6 with rear fendors and hood being slightly different. I think GM dropped the ball on the new Z06 with respect to its C6 Exterior likeness.
