Seems that Chevrolet, in their efforts to make a fantastic car available at a reasonable price (considering what you DO get!), failed to provide a fuel gauge that would be 100% dependable. It seems that some of the sending units are succeptable to problems with some gasolines, causing them to "stick up" and not provide accurate readings of gasoline levels.
If you're out of warranty it would cost you many $$$$$'s to get a new gauge installed, or, even if you are covered, you're stuck leaving your baby at a dealer's shop for a while (if you even trust them!).
Many of our CF brethren have found that adding "Techron" every so often makes the gauge work properly!
So, pay $10 - $20 a year for the Techron or take your chances with the dealer - with or without warranty.
By the way, Chevrolet STILL doesn't think this is really a problem!
Googled MTBE/EPA. From the Washington Times (rightwing rag):
"EPA's MTBE debacle got under way in 1990 with the enactment of a host of amendments to the Clean Air Act. One of those amendments instructed EPA to develop a reformulated gasoline program for the nation's most polluted cities, with the goal of reducing carbon monoxide emissions from cars and trucks. EPA unveiled its reformulated gasoline program with great fanfare in 1993 and promptly mandated the use of what it touted as cleaner-burning oxygenated fuels in 39 metropolitan areas beginning in 1995."
Seems that the MTBE issue began under King George I. Check your facts before you criticize.
We are in fact both wrong, the use of MTBE started in the late 70's under Carter as a replacement for lead. The use of a oxygenator in the fuel was mandated in 1990, but MTBE was not required as ethynol also met the requirements. The use of MTBE was favored due to its "lead like" characteristics and it was cheaper than ethynol.
Pretty ironic that we were charged more for gas when MTBE was mandated and now we're being told we'll be paying more at the pump when they are forced to stop using it.

Techron...
I buy a 4 pack of "injector cleaner w/Techron" for about $10 at Costco and put one in about every 3 tankfulls-that's about like the cost of an extra gallon every 3 tankfulls and it seems to satisfy the Corvettes voracious appetite for "Techron" and my gas gauge seems to be happy!
I use Shell gas here in Kalifornica, as it's cheap and I get a 5% rebate on my Shell card gas purchases, if anybody's got a better deal to get "Techron", let me know!
