I am in the market for a car cover that DOES NOT SCRATCH. I dont want to mess up my new paint. Even though my car is in the garage bugs still get in and land on the paint. (Yes I am ****) I want to keep the car as clean as possible most of the time. I did a search and didnt come up with anything. I thought about the car bubble but not going to pay that much. Its also something I like to use at a car show if I am not standing with the car. It doesnt have to be an outdoor cover. Anyone have any good suggestions.
TIA,
Jon
I did it to my friends car last April fools day and it was on for 3days..rained like mad for those days. Finally took the shrink wrap off and the paint looked as if it was just washed!!
I could be wrong about this, but my past experience w/ covers isn't too good. As far as I know, they need to "breathe." That lets dust in. Pull it off and your'e dragging junk across the paint. Inside a garage I guess would be different.
I have a Covercraft Weathershield that I've used every day for over 3 years. It's made of a very slick material that does not scratch the paint at all. It can be thrown in a standard home-sized washing machine for cleaning instead of taking it to a laundromat for the commercial-size washer most covers need. It's a bit pricey but the best and longest-lasting cover I've ever owned. Here's a recent pic.
I have a tan dust cover from http://www.griotsgarage.com. Its fairly thick and very soft on the underside. Its strictly an indoor cover. I like it. I don't have any problems with the cover scratching the car.
You won't find a car cover that is harder than your paint, so it's obvious that the culprit is always sand that gets underneath the cover. So, if you use ANY clean cover on a clean car, you won't have any problems. If we all assume that some sand makes its way onto our cars when we drive or even if some neighbor uses a leaf blower nearby, then the best you can do (IMO) is use a cotton cover that features a Terry cloth-like underside. This texture helps to lift the sand up and away from the paint, just as it does when you are washing your car (although water is a great assistant).
The downside of using a cotton car cover is that it is much heavier than a synthetic (like polypropylene) cover, especially if it gets wet. That being said, I must also mention that I use an $89 Wolfe (Noah) cover and I am very happy with it.
Here's a real doozy for you! You can buy these little beaut's off eBay for about $35.00 It's never left a single scratch on my Vette! That's probably because IT DON"T FIT ... so I don't use it

WTF is that, no offense but what did you expect for $35.
You may want to check ebay again to see if they'll sell you the rest of the cover

My GAWD, you had to be sick when you were taking that picture. But we all learn our lessons - sooner or later!

I actually took that picture to send to the people that sold it to me. The funny part was that they told me that I was the first person ever to complane about their covers ... that's hard to believe! They were good enough to give me a full refund ... they even told me to keep the cover. I guess it wasn't worth the cost of shipping to them.
But being that a decent cover typically starts at about $100.00, I'll offer this one at half of that ... being that it's technically about half of a cover The first $50.00 takes this fine cover! Any takers???
I got mine from MidAmerica. It's not a fancy one, I think around $55 with a bag to store it in. My car is rarely parked outside overnight so I didn't get an expensive cover. It's never scratched the car.

There's enough covers available out there to make your head spin but I would say there are just a few good/great quality covers to consider. I went with the Wolfe Noah cover myself for the all around protection it provides for dust, dings, water, etc. I primarily use it in the garage but I wanted one that would hold up outside as well if I needed to put it outside in a pinch. I also agree with Dave above, the Terry cloth type underside would be my first pick for an inside use only cover. Do a search for California car covers, they have plenty to choose from.

I really like mine too, but it can blow off if it is real windy.
