Default battery question *************

You folks with the Optima red cap, how did you get it secured in the battery tray? That stock boot under there is about as usless as a dog turd.

It takes some work and positioning but I've got mine secured with the tray provided!

There is a recess in the back of the tray that the back lip of the base of the battery has to fit into. MIne took a bit of effort to work it into place. Also, the stock hold-down shoe will work fine but I did get a better one from Optima that worked better (see pic). I called them and they sent it to me free of charge.

My Optima Red Top fit just fine in the tray and the stock hold down piece worked well also. Takes a little patience but it should hold tight.

Put one in our '02 a couple of months ago, BUT, our '00 still has the original Delco in it. Car was born in 12/99. Am I driving on borrowed time with the original? Ampmeter reads OK; no acid leaks.

Had the original AC Delco Battery leak , Dealer replaced with a new one , replacement battery leaked & the entire terminal fell out of the battery , Lots more battery acid . Battery was still under warrenty but saved my self the future trouble and purchased a red top. The red top fit in just fine . No problems!

i got it in a couple times with the stock hold-down, and if I tighten it too much, then the battery pops out from beneath the hold-down. When I adjust it properly...it stays for a while, but keeps shimmying loose....and then the cables loosen....etc etc. I tried afro-engineering it as best I could with the stock hold-down, but it keeps coming loose.

I emailed optima for their hold down. i looks like exactly what I need, just a slighty larger lip to grab ahold of the battery.

If you didn't get a curved hold down puck with your new red top, just call Optima. They will send you a free one that fits perfect in this car. That is what I did!
