I have a 2004 that I bought new one year ago this month. The battery is dying to the point where I have to jump it almost every morning.
So what's the best battery to get?
I live in Dallas so it's hot, and I hear the original battery that came with the late C5s are not good. Also, part of the problem is coming from a security/tracking system I bought when I took possession of the car. It's called MicroTrak. It's like LoJack but better. Here's a link
The system is great, but apparently the company has had problems with the system draining the battery. They have new systems now that don't draw as much on the battery and they are gonna come out next week and replace the existing one.
But I really need a new battery today. I'll try and get them to reimburse me the cost of the new battery however.
Most of us who have replaced our Delco batteries have Optima red tops. Mine works well so far. I paid $116 for mine including shipping/no tax. Go to Optima's website (do a Google search) for which model you need. I have the 34/78 which I believe is the more powerful red top. The yellow top is more powerful if you feel you need it.

In the Red Top, either the 75/35 (720 cold cranking amps) or the 34/78 (800 c.c.a.) will fit the C5. Not being real familiar with the Yellow Top, I think the battery series and sizes are the same.

Autozone says they don't show anything in there system to match a 2004 Corvette...odd.
So if I decide to go with the yellow top does anyone know the model number for the 2004?
Following the link I put in my first post took me to the spec sheet for the yellow top batteries. It appears as though there is a model D34/78 (I assume the D stands for Deep Discharge). I know that many members here on the CF have the 34/78 Red Top. It appears as though the dimensions are the same.
The 34/78 is slightly larger than the 75/35, but it does fit in the space. From the specs, it looks like the 34/78 is 10"L x 6 7/8"W x 7 13/16"H.
The 75/35 is 9 5/16"L x 6 13/16"W x 7 5/8"H.
These sizes are consistent with both the Red Top and the Yellow.
The D34/78 (Yellow) is 750cca, and the 75/25 Yellow is 650 cca.
The 34/78 (Red) 800 cca and the 75/35 (Red) is 720 cca.
As I indicated before, these are the two sizes and models that will fit the C5.......

I'm guessing that the Optima was not included because of its higher-than-normal price range, which tends to restrict its sales to those who are extremely concerned about leaks. That being said, I've been driving since 1974 and have never had a leaking battery, so I guess we can compare buying an Optima to buying runflats?
