If the Z06 was out in 1998 when I purchased my coupe, I da#n sure would have purchased a Z06. IMHO it is the best looking corvette period.

The Z 06 FRC is everthing it should be and more. Not only does the fixed roof add to the "purpose built" function of the car it is unique in design. You will not confuse a Z 06 FRC with any other Corvette. You know it when you see it.

To each his own.
There is nothing wrong with the coupe but I really like/prefer the look of the notched back (even if it is less aerodynamic). It seems more aggressive somehow.
As far as the rear brake ducts. I like them because they are functional. If they were just stuck on trim (read Mustang) I would dislike them.

If I didn't NEED a top down car, I would've went for the Z06, don't care for the coupe...IMHO, it reminds me too much of the C4's...which isn't a bad thing. But, for me, I prefer a ride that stands out to ME as being unique in MY eyes. All in all, I am in the camp that says gimme any year and I can see something that I like. Color me American

That's what I knew to be fact also.
My reason of not getting a Z was that I couldn't drive without a top!! I LOVE the sun!! As a matter of fact....I was looking for a black C5 until I saw a black and a torch red side by side and that was it for me! Of course its just me...I'm sure others love what they drive too, I hope.

I've never been crazy about the brake duct myself, but all in all the Z06 is one awesome looking corvette.

I agree with the orginal poster... I just think the fastback coupe looks racier. But I'd give anything for for all the Z06 hardware (slowly getting there with mods). And despite all the advantages of the FRC (lighter weight, etc) weren't all the C5-R race cars fastbacks?

YES and that is why the C6 ZO6 is fastback design too.

That is one thing about the Z that gripes my ***... GM says they shed some of these things to save weight?! i say !

Saving 20 grams of weight

I'm sorry, anyone who believes that GM removed the tire pressure sensors, the passenger power seat motor, the power antenna, and other expensive, really light weight parts, to save weight... is a GM drone... they did it for one simple purpose... PROFIT... they claim its to "shave weight to make it a super fast light weight machine"... ... they did it so they could save money by not putting it in there, and then charge the consumer for a "race car weight reduced" car... so they saved money and then, through advertising and sales pitch, made even more money by fooling people they did it to reduce weight...

When people driving the car vary in weight by 100 lb's or more, you really think its that big of a deal to shed 1 or 2 lbs on sensors and electric motors for the seats and antenna?!? Hell no, they did it to save money, plain and simple... and anyone that says "the collective weight of all the parts added up sheds 150 lbs", that may be true, but they saved the major weight in the glass, the exhaust and other things that are more expensive, specially designed to go on the Z06 to reduce weight

the way they offset this: by taking out little expensive parts that weigh practically nothing... and getting us to think they did it to save weight...

notice they only took out the little things that people could live without, or just wave off when they were told are not on there.. the tire pressure sensors, PASSENGER side only is missing power, power antenna..?!?! If they really wanted to reduce weight= no power seats at all, no HUD, which Im sure weighs more than all those other things combined... why they didnt'= people would bitch about those things=would bitch about other little things = GM would have to put it back and lose some profit... so they put on the "cool" things that cost money, and left off the things that normal buyers would dismiss...

"power passenger seat? hmmm, oh well, I never sit there."
"power antenna? hmm, oh well, dont really need that"
"tire pressure sensors? hmmm, oh well, never really had that before"

vs

"NO power DRIVERS seat?!?! No way... I have to have that!"
"No HUD!? all the other Vettes have that, that is REALLY COOL!"

You guys can keep on believing that GM shed the small expensive parts for weight reduction if you'd like... if you want to be a mindless GM drone, believing everything GM says, go ahead! be my guest!!

You really must get your recent history straight before going on a rant like that.

The cheapening things - power seat and antenna - were done because the FRC was designed as the 'billy bob' lowcost version of the car. It was the lowest selling version so when they came up with the great marketing idea of the Z06 it became the platform of choice.

Tire pressure sensors were deleted because the style that they had got gunked up with a flat tire fix with the included goo because they were non runflats.

I love the FRC look so much that I converted my vert to an FRC, in fact I think I had the only 2003 AE FRC ever made

I am now in the process of converting it back to a vert in preperation for an 07 Z06

except that the Z06 looks to the casual observer the same as a 99 FRC.

Where as the coupe looks like a coupe and is unlikely to be confused with any other Corvette.

I guess the looks of the Z06 are a matter of personal tastes. That's why it is good that buyers can select from the coupe and vert also. Personally, I like them all.

I always leaned toward the look of the C5 coupe, probably one of the most beautiful cars on the road. I always felt that the FRC/Z06 and even the verts looked somewhat unfinished, they don't have the fluid line that the coupe has. That being said, I've never owned a coupe. My first C5 was a beautiful 01 Mag Red vert, my current car is an 04 Millenium Yellow Z06, which of course I think is the best looking car on the road. The bottom line is they're all great looking cars, the only opinion that matters is your own!
