I have an 01 triple Black. I get so disappointed every time I wash it. I seem to always find one or two new small paint chips. Seems like the car is deteriorating before my very eyes. I tried touch up paint but it never seems to look right.
One of the steps in my waxing process is to apply small dabs of the black-tinted turtle wax to the areas in question. After that and a finishing coat of NXT or Zaino I'm pretty happy with the results.
This has been my first and likely my last black car.
gotta have heart to own a black car; new scratches, chips at every wash. Seems like somedays you just look at it and it leaves a mark. Still, I'll get another black...just looks too menacing to turn away.
If you never drive them they always look great, and thats the point. These cars were meant to be driven so I do the best I can to keep it looking good and try not worry too much about show quality paint.
My 2000 FRC black/black had a tough life before I bought her. I have buffed the car out twice now, using a PC orbital buffer starting with 3M Swirl Remover, then Meguiars Scratch X, then 3 coats of Zaino Z5 and 2 coats of Z2-Pro. It still turns heads but the front facia has too many chip/dings to touch up, so I don't worry about where the next one will come from. Drive it and have fun.
I feel your pain also, Life is tough in a black car, especially in Jersey! this is my last black car....period. It's alot of work for very little reward.

Definitely feeling this one. FWIW a PC with 3M Perfecit-It II and then SMR did wonders for my hood - now i just gotta get the rest! It seems like a stiff wind puts new scratches in it though.
The nose on the other hand, looks like it's got acne. peppered with specs. Not sure what i'm going to do about that. The only thing i can think is colored wax, or maybe a black sharpie They're not at a point that i can touch them up with paint, but buffing hasn't touched them either.
Despite all this, i LOVE black, it's just too beautiful and menacing and elegant looking all at the same time not to love it! My next favorite is Electron Blue.
I'm really curious to see what the new Zaino compound will do - haven't ordered it yet though.

I've had about six black cars, though this is my first Vette. I wouldn't have any other color. In fact other than the fact that my "dream Vette" had to have an MN6, the only other thing I knew was that it had to be black!

I have to disagree with this though, ALX99. The reward is the looks and the compliments I get when the car is immaculate. When I turn around after I've walked away and look back at the car, THAT'S my reward!
My last six cars have been black. I always swear it will be the last one, but I can't get away. I've spent the last two days going over the hood of my '98 (tons of swirl and scratches.) Like someone noted earlier, 3M Perfect-It II compound is good. It just takes a lot of patience. Follow it up with SSR and glaze and wax, and you'll be glad you own the black ride.
I've always wanted a black/black Corvette and this is my first. I drive it two or three times a week and am always amazed at how much dust is on it afterward. I used to wash it frequently, but there are always new fine scratches afterward. Have a buffer and a polisher, but I'm not good enough with them to use them on this beast yet.
