Default Anyone with clear floormat protectors?

I bought a set of the clear floormat protectors that Lloyd's makes back in mid Feb.

http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?d...TLBCGV19J1BK58

I started noticing that the driver's side is starting to stain and color yellowish. I haven't driven in the snow nor do I drive in the rain. What might be a cause for that? I don't suppose there is any way to clean that off? I wear rubber sole or leather sole dress shoes when I drive the vette to work - would that be a cause? Other times, I wear gym shoes or rubber flip flops on the weekends.

I guess I could just buy another set for ~$30 from Eckler's or WCC, but will this be common with clear floor mat protectors?

Ron

I bought some for my '04 back in Nov when I got the car. No problems so far. You may want to contact Lloyds direct to see if there is a problem. Who knows they may replace them

I purchased mine from WCC and no problems yet. I have heard that when you walk on blacktop surfaces, the chemicals in the blacktop get on your shoe and then transfer over to whatever your standing on. My parents vinly floor turned yellow in the areas they walked. A rep came out and determine it was related to the blacktop and no default of the product.

Made my own. Went to Home Depot, bought floor runner. Laid the mats down, traced around with knife. Used HD office clips on the four corners to keep in place. Keeps the mat clean. Used the factory "stubs" to hold the regular mat in place. Cut out for the drivers foot rest. Guess just too cheap to buy the regular mats. Cost: about $10.00. If they yellow, go buy more and re-do. As of now, keeps the mats clean. At shows, pull out, roll up, put in the back. Again, just too cheap.

Default Clear floormats

Rather than spend forty bucks on new mats, a person can buy clear "runner" plastic covering by the yard and using your floormats for a pattern, cut the stuff to size. It has the gripping fingers on the back and will not slide around. You can cut it with good scissors.

I have had this problem (color change, and 'hardening' of the mats themselves to the point they start to 'curl') over the years on my '99.

Approximately every two years I spring for the additional $30+ for new sets.

I do believe this situation occurs because of heat, and not because of 'wear'.

When you get the new set, notice how pliable they are versus the old ones. Over time they get stiff, and this is a result of the chemical reaction due to heat (IMO).

I am on my 2nd set of these clear floormats. They are nice but mine have yellowed and scratched, too. Have not found anything that will clean it well enough. Unfortunately, due to use only the driver's side yellows and scratches due to use. Passenger nice and original. Yep. Big price increase from $19.95. Will not be getting another set for the $39.95 that they want now.

considered clear but have seen many that become discolored. took a really low-tech approach. we have a black interior. went to target, auto section, & got some all purpose black mats for $3.99 each. the fit perfectly & protect 98% of the carpet area. low tech but quite effective. they keep our carpets in pristine condition and look like they were made for the car. bub
btw: the mats are black carpet--same color as vette black carpet

I'm sorry, but putting clear floormat protectors in a Vette seems to me to be like leaving the clear plastic cover on a new lampshade or sofa.

As I stated, I only put them on for when I drive myself. As I have the shale interior, my Lloyd's mats are the shale color with the C5 logo. I remove the clear mat protectors when I go to car shows. Otherwise, I leave them in the one or two days I drive per week.

BTW, Lloyd's will be sending me new ones free of charge - talk about awesome customer service! I don't even have to send in my old ones!

Had a set of clears on my 88 coupe and the cargo mat hardened and cracked. The front mats lasted 130K miles and were only scuffed from wear.

Bought a set for the 96 coupe and they began to yellow and wrinkle at 40K miles and the cargo mat was unusable after 25K miles.

So far no plastic mats in the 04 as it is rarely parked in the sun for long periods of time. And I cary a vinyl table cover in the storage bin if I haul something dirty.

O what has this sick sad world come to! I celebrated the day they got rid of those awful clear plastic seat cover protectors back in the 60's!

C'mon guys, IT'S JUST A CAR!!! Not the crown friggin' jewels!
