I have the combination and it works great for me. I have almost too much sound!
I don't care about it being way throaty or not, so long as it is just a tiny bit throaty, but I like a deep sounding exhaust that sounds nice, deep and tuned more then anything.....
The X pipe did take a bit of the edge off my Corsas, but I like it better as do most others. Still sounds bas azz under throttle and whisper quite when cruising.
I've got Borla Stingers, but haven't installed a X pipe as yet. From what I understand about the only thing the X pipe does is reduces the interior drone at certain rpms and the popping back when decelerating. I don't have any drone and like the snapping. It reminds me of the old days of steel pack Hollywood mufflers.
I'm looking at getting an magnaflow x-pipe, and my exhaust is bone stock, but does sound nice and throaty for stock at idle.
Will an X-pipe totally kill that throaty sound? I do plan on getting some borla stingers or like in time.
Should I do it or not??
I know your feeling been there and done that
I had Borla Quad Stingers...after awhile the drone inside the cabin between 1300 and 1800 RPM got to me. So I went with the ZO6 Ti exhaust system with an X-pine and hi-flow cats. A couple of days before putting the X-pipe and cats on; the ZO6 sounded a lil louder at idle. After the installation of the X-pipe and cats the sound got deeper at idle and louder at WOT but nice at cruising.
Here is a LINK about the ZO6 System. http://www.corvettemuseum.com/specs/2001/exhaust.htm
Magaflow is a nice system also. But pricey.

Good luck on your choice.

i'd personally say it's pointless to do that without switching out at least the other part of the exhaust (past the H) .. but i guess that's mopo
its been my experience that a X adds rasp to an exhaust note.
I do plans on getting some stingers or something else that will put out a good thump, but not too much at WOT, just have an opportunity to get the X-pipe now. Mufflers are next.
My understanding of the "X-pipe" issue is this:
The X-pipe will allow "equal" opportunity for exhaust gasses to escape. That means that there is no pressure on one side as opposed to the other.
It also allows a "freer" opportunity for exhaust gasses to escape, thus increasing the flow - meaning horsepower!
So, as I have experienced, it doesn't have the same "rumble" at idle, but it DOES help the system run more effeciently!
So, that is NOT an "expert" opinion - just my own experience.
Good luck!

well if you're going to get a catback later on anyways then yah ... get the x .. if not now .. you'll get it later.
6 months ago I got my borla straights I finally got a great deal on a magnaflow x just a few weeks ago .. so i went with it.
i mean .. absolute worst case scenario .. you have to uninstall it.
I have borla stinger quads which produce annoying interior resonance at certain rpm's. I am going to try the x-pipe and see if it helps reduce the drone enough to make a noticeable difference

Here's my X pipe story:
First of all, I have a vert and drive quite a bit. The top is down most of the time. Last year I put cutouts right in front of my stock mufflers-no other changes. It sounded great, but popped like mad on deceleration when the cutouts were open. Also- I had NO drone open or closed. Last winter NitroVette sent me some PRTs for FREE! (Great forum member ) I took the stock exhaust off, put in a weld in x pipe and the PRTs. The damn things sounded great when you're on the gas but droned like nothing I've ever heard. I put my stock muffler w/ cutouts back on. Now with the x pipe the exhaust barely pops on deceleration with the cutouts open. I'm absolutely sure that the x pipe made the exhaust quieter. When the cutouts are closed you can barely hear the car. My kids say that I should never completely close the cutouts anymore. They say it now sounds like stock a 4 or 6 cylinder car when they are completely shut. When I'm with my wife on the x-way it is a silent pleasure though. It is silent now.
