Has anyone had any kind of experience with u-haul trailers? Particularly, ones that have been lowered on stock bolts. I am thinking about renting one to get my car somewhere and checking to see if anyone had any problems.
that is taking a risk. You may need to put boards down under the wheels if your car is lowered. Also get some good straps to tie your car down. The ones that come with the u-haul tend to be warn quite a bit.
U-Hauls dont have brakes so slowing down is real pain with your tow vehical.
I still haven't decided yet to drive it or not.....I just wanted to see what others have done.
It wasnt a Uhaul trailer, but getting it on this trailer tough. We had to back the trailer into a ditch, and then drive accross a lawn to pull it on, same to take off. I was going to use one before a friend let me use his.
If you do, be very careful about the doors!!! If the previous owner wasnt standing right there when I tried to get out I would probably have a chip in door. I had to go out through the window.
Didn't want to put an extra 1000 miles on my C5. No problems. Did around 65-70 and as long as you use common sense you should have no problems. Price was just under $500.
You only have to be careful loading her up. The under carriage touched for about 2 seconds when loading. The car was held on nicely with the front tire straps and a chain under.
You are always taking a chance towing, as I knew I was, but everything worked out fine.
Our son used one to get his Miata to Maxwell AFB and then another to get it back to Louisiana. We had to make custom boards to get it on the trailer. The lip on the inside was quite high. Otherwise, the trailer supplied for the trip to Maxwell was ok. The trailer supplied for the trip back was a piece of junk. It had a low surge brake hitch that rode very low on the front & dragged all over the place. That also made it difficult to get the Miata on the trailer. Finally, the Sorry thing had a blowout less than 100 miles from Maxwell. While he was less than 10 miles from a dealer, they brought in someone from over 30 miles away and he had to wait 2 hours sitting on the side of the highway for the repairman to arrive and get the work done.
So in the end it is a bit of a gamble on the trailer that you will get.
Back the tow vehicle up on car ramps to lower the tail end of the trailer which will make it easier to load the car. And get the aluminum U-Haul car hauler not the old fashioned steel one. U-Haul still rents both but you can request the aluminum, same price. You may have to go out the hatch or window though, I do not know if you can open the door over the wheels, the fender on the trailer lets down but I don't think you will have room, my GN barley cleard the aluminum and did not clear the steel trailer. Hope this helps. Good Luck and try not to scuff it.

Ask them for a tilt trailer or go someplace else that rents them. I use a tilt trailer......you just crank the trailer up at the front and put out the ramps....no problem.

Alright Scottie!!!!! What's up my man.... Something wrong with the beast, or are you traveling long distance to visit friends/family?
If you're trying to avoid gas & mileage, I would opt for the flat-bed like MotownPaceCar has done. Your truck should have zero problems pullin the beast around town, although you still have me concerned! I'm waiting for the answer!
Me and the MRS are going to Vernon TX next weekend.....I think it's Vernon anyways.
They are having some sort of car show/parade/thingy. Her folks are going in their motorhome and she was wanting to go. I was thinking of taking the car with us.

Easy as pie, just put some blocks down to raise the front wheels over the lip near the end to raise the spoiler.
