My 2000 locked three times. First two were in my garage and unlocked after switching off and restarting coupled with turning of the wheel. The last time was in a parking lot. It had to be towed. The dealer fixed it.
Yea, mine locked several times before I got savy. Tow truck scratched my car and I paid for a tow truck once to find it unlocked when they showed up. Put the column lock bypass on. Mine locked after the local dealership "fixed" it.
turn wheel to right while turning key to "on" and the lock will pop out
This did not (nor did anything else) work for me, since my actuator was completely shot. I HAD to get it towed after approx. 1500 actuations (one actuation for every start and one for every stop) over 3+ years of almost daily use.
WWK888, thats your opinion, not mine. One of the good features of this forum is, we can all agree to disagree.
That fact that you have a bypass means you fear a CL failure. My point is you need to install your bypass BEFORE it locks up. The lock has to be in working order before you can install the bypass. Once it locks up your bypass will do you no good until you get it unlocked. It is a misconception that the bypass will "fix" a locked (malfunctioning) steering lock.
I had my A4 brought in for the recall. Six months later it showed on the DIC service column lock and wait ten seconds pull key. Then it would shut off at 1 1//2 miles per hour. Had it towed to the dealership and $240.00 later I thought I had it fixed. Two days later I had to go to the Black Hills Corvette Classic. Couldnt get the car out of the garage, had to have it towed to the dealership @ 6:30 a.m. The dealership didnt get it fixed until 1:30 and I gave them the CLB to install. The car was all screwed up. They broke the seat plastic by the electric adjustments, they re-hooked up the white wire that made my European tailights work properly, they installed the dash with my hand held GPS wire still caught underneath the dash. Then they broke my clip that covers the door panel screws. After all that monkey business GM still refused to pay a dime and it definitely was a recall isssue gone bad. Well to make a long story short I will continue to buy the Corvette but am switching to Honda and Ford. I refuse to do business with GM anymore other than the vettes. I have been treated very well by Honda and Mazda. My Ford expedition has been trouble free and I just feel GM has not been keeping up with times as far as excellant quality is concerned. If you have an issue with GM you better plan on getting out the big bucks because they do not stand up or pay for their most frequented issues.
THIS MORNING!
Had a 1999, twice repaired (?) and this 2001 first time this morning.
Considering that the total mileage on both cars was 54,000 miles, I'm getting about 11.000 miles per anti-theft feature installation. Let's say I had to pay for this. I figure I can add about $50 a month for operating costs. Talk a major league suck.
Just for fun, the first time it froze, I had just gotten fired. This one, I was on my way to church.
I can't do good and I can have evil done whenever this sucker goes bad.
Please give me the link to the CLB. I hate to defeat a feature to keep my car in my possession but I don't want ot be possessed by it either.

2001 MN6 27000 mi and never had the prob. but I just installed the CLB today and it took only about 25 mins from start to finish and I'm by no means mechanically inclined...........................I'll drive with a little less worry now!!
Mine locked up at work last fall, but broke it loose. Then had the recall done and it locked up a week later, fortunately in my garage. I replaced the column lock module in March and all is well so far.
