Default C5 Emblem Modification

Has anyone replaced the flag inserts on their front and rear C5 emblems? How is it done?

I have a navy blue coupe that has the black outline emblems. I want to change from the black outline to a gray outline to stand out a little more and match my gray interior and gray wheels. I just thought of buying 2003 AE emblems that are gray but have the AE red (dark red) flag. I think I can swap out my current bright red flag into the gray AE emblem. Any thoughts?

I thought about using the 2004 LeMans emblems, but I was told the "24:00 hours" insert is attached to the emblem unlike the 2003 AE emblem? Is that true?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, the colored inserts, the checkered flag and fluer-de-lis, can be replaced. In fact, vendors here sell replacement American flags inserts that replace the fluer-de-lis. It's also true that the 24 Hours portion of the '04 is molded into the main emblem body so you would need to trim it out. Incidentally, the silver '03 emblems are painted silver.

The flag inserts are just held in with some glue. You can probably take a thin screwdriver and pop the inserts out. Then just glue new inserts in.

I have replaced the OEM flag and Chev. fleur-de-lies in my '02 and replaced with the cool American flag and racing flag (West Coast Corvettes)... used my wife's hair dryer to soften the original and then gently pried out the old and immediately placed the new (while warm) and everything looks great.

I had to cut the 50th off of the original emblem from my car. They were on the same tape pad. I have seen them sold seperately.

On the same tape pad? Do you mean they are not physically attached (molded, glued, etc) to the flags and ring? If thats the case I can just buy the 2004 CE emblems and easily remove the "24:00 hours" piece and not have to worry about switching flag pieces.

Yep. Actually, now that i think about it. I lost a 50th emblem off the rear and I purchaces and entire 03 50th emblem. I then cut the 50th piece out and used it on the rear chrome one on my car.

May I have the insert if you are not going to use it?
The CE emblems cost about $80. Are you sure you want to go with them. The inserts for the 50th are smaller and doesn't fill in the area where the flags cross. The CE emblem insert is "V" shaped to fill in the gap. It is not molded to the emblem. It think it can be bought separately. Prior to the Corvette Team running the new Le Mans blue painted C5R at Le Mans, they made inserts that said 3 wins @ LM. When they didn't win first that year. They made the "2 win at LM" inserts.
