I remember reading a members post a while back regarding speed bumps in his condo community. He had gone to the trustees and told them he would take legal action against both the community and the trustees themselves if the speed bumps were installed. I did a search but came up empty.
Our community's trustees are now talking about installing speed bumps I don't understand this at all: our community is gated so only residents, and guests can enter, and the average age of the residents is about 127. We just don't have any speeders in our neighborhood.
My vette's been lowered and will not make it over a speed bump. If they go ahead with this plan, I'll have to garage the vette at a storage unit for about $150 per month or I'll probably end up moving out of here.
Reasons why people return their cars back to original height, speed bumps and driveways. Good luck in stopping the construction of a community speed bump.
Since many people can't seem to control there speed around areas where kids may be present, the bumps will help to convince them to slow down. The bigger picture is more important and see nothing wrong with them. Then again my Vette isn't lowered either.
Speed bumps... here they put them on the public street in groups of 3 with a posted speed limit of 35,, talk about nuts.
I would like to see a person drive 35 over the speed bumps. When I have to drive the (not lowered) vet down the street, I bring it to almost full stop and roll over the bumbs. I have a bad back and won't hurt the car or myself. So the folks following will also have to slow to 3 mph to travel down the street that is posted at 35.
My Home Owners Association just repaved our road and put in speed bumps. They are nicely done, about 6-7 feet wide with a center height of about 6 inches.
My vettes not lowered, but I can go over these at 12-15mph with out any problem. My guess is a lowered vette could get over them.
Buddy of mine lives in a development that has those 5'-wide speed bumps in the first part of the main entrance. Some of them are a good 6-8" high at their peak but I and other lowered vettes manage to traverse them with nothing more than the air deflectors and dam scarping a bit. Granted, it's at a crawl but they are negotiable. The killer style of speed bumps are the semi-circular "mound" style that are fairly high. I have to crabwalk those carefully to keep from high-centering but I've never touched my rocker rails on those.
I think of they are determined to install the speed bumps then you'll need to approach them in a reasonable, non-threatening way and try and come to some compromise. Show them your car and try and come to some agreement as to the type and max. height the bumps should be so you don't damage your car. You should actually test it out ahead of time to see how big of a bump you can traverse without damage so you have a sepcification ready to throw at them when it comes time.

Best of luck.
Sounds like a good idea, best of luck with the outcome.
Do some research and show them the data that states that speed bumps slow the response time of emeregency vehicles. I'm sure all of the 127 year olds will be happy to know that the ambulance will take longer to get them when they fall and can't get up. Not only on the way in, but if they have to transport them to the hospital, they have to go slow on the way out, especially if they have someone in critical condition in the back.
I have speed bumps at work -- don't know their height, but they seem about normal. My car is as low as it can go without coilovers. I have NO SCRAPES while traversing the speed bumps, so long as I go SLOW. Good luck!

Thanks for the input guys. I've talked to a local fireman who told me the fire department won't sign off on the speed bumps, so hopefully I'm getting worked up for no reason.
I friend of my mother's had speed bumps that the her community (or a few residents) paid to have installed. She complained to the city government and since the city were the ones paying to keep up her road, not the community, the city made them pay to remove them as well. Not sure if this would apply to you but, Good luck!
