i put mine away in about nov...and leave it in the garage until march (last winter i pulled it out in the driveway...only a few inches of snow on the ground...and i had a hard time getting it back in the garage...my driveway has a slight slope )
I live in Chicago. Have 47k on my 00 vert. It is a daily driver... I mean EVERY day. Never had snow tires. The Vette is so well ballanced it just goes through the snow... Until it gets to about 3"... Then it becomes a snowplow! Never had a problem.... Now about my previous four Mustangs... FUGADABOUDET... They needed three bags of salt and a dead body and still I couldn't get home!!!
ZOOOM
while i wouldn't call the vette an investment, here in the northeast, in pa, i'll not be driving the vette in snow or ice. from my perspective, that's kind of asking for trouble. in this neck of the woods, from time to time we have this thing called black ice which is treacherous. i'll use our dd honda accord for the nasty stuff. i will indeed however drive it all winter long on cold & clear days. btw, on the investment thing, when we bought our 1st corvette (a torch red c4) some years ago @ carlisle, we sold it after 18 mos & made $2k over what we paid. we were darn lucky & realize it'll never happen again. bub
to each there own, but once the first salt application goes down, the Vette goes to sleep for the winter untill all the salt is washed away. (bought mine in Miami and salt has never kissed the underside of my baby, and I don't plan on it now!)
But snow tires? If you must drive do so and be careful.

Winters in Toronto are relatively mild, and they do a great job of plowing the streets that I travel on a daily basis. So I drive mine all year round, and last winter I had the runflats out back and a fresh pair of Pirelli P Zero Neros up front. This winter I will replace the runflats with another pair of Pirellis, so I'll be running those on all fours.
I must admit that I was extremely impressed with how well this car made it through the snow last winter. The runflats surprised the heck out of me too. I had originally planned on replacing them once winter began, but when I drove through my first minor snowstorm and saw how well they did, I decided to keep them, since they were practically new anyhow. If the snow is too deep for the front end to clear (which happens maybe twice a year here) then I'll stay off the roads, but the rest of the time I'm out there driving it. I enjoy my car too much to put it away for so many months! And if you see my car in person, you would never know it was winter driven, it still looks like new. My secret is not to leave the car dirty for very long. I visit a detailing shop every Saturday in the winter time to get them to do a proper handwash, and through the week I go to the coin wash to spray off any road salt. I also get the detail shop to put a coat of Meguiar's #26 yellow wax on it every 4-6 weeks in the winter, thus protecting the paint as well.

Mine hibernates from Nov to Apr. Too much salt on the roads and I don't trust some of the azzhole drivers on the roads, they're bad enough on dry roads let alone with some snow on them
