Does anyone have the lojack system in there c-5? I plan to have an alarm system installed in a few weeks. I was just wondering if the lojack system would be worth the money. I just wanna know what are the dislikes and likes about this system. Thanks for your help.
Your local P.D. must have the ability to track a lojack vehicle, otherwise, you won't have much use for it. Dealers in San Diego won't sell a vette without it because so many cars are stolen to So. Cal. The dealer in La Mesa had 3 vette's stolen off his lot during the same week that my car was being delivered.
You don't know the system is even installed. No markings to indicate. Only the owner of the car ever knows and it is up to the owner to call the PD and have them activate the tracking device after the car is stolen.
I wish my cousin had it in Mexico. He was carjacked and lost his beautiful red C-5 to two armed carjackers. The car was never seen again.
Also, a lot of cars are stolen from SD and end up in Mexico.
I had it in a Tahoe once. My brother a police officer said would you really want it back or would you want a check instead. Made me think, you know your car is going to be messed with. The other thing I didn't like about it they won't tell you where it is located in the vehicle. And they charge about $50 to change a 9 volt battery every year. In a vette you probably could find it though
I had Lojack installed. What sold me was the fact that car thieves will take a car and park it for a couple of days to see if the cops find it using Lojack. If not, then it goes to the chop shop or whatever.
LoJack???? Once you get your stolen Corvette back (if you do get it back), will you really want to see it??. In my opinion, alarm systems, LoJacks, etc., are a waste of money. That's what auto insurance is for....

BTW I'm a lo-jack owner but after really thinking about it, I dought if I ever get it again. If it gets stolen...keep it I don't want it back
Don't buy it! Get a real time GPS unit like I have. Most of you are right about Lojack, it's worthless and by the time they find your car if they find your car it's too late. With Trackn.com you can find it in real time at any time. It will even call your cell phone if your car alarm goes off. It's great and I have it on both my cars. My insurance gave me 15% off my rates with it also. Check it out at Trackn.com.

FWIW, I have a lojack somewhere in my car...I've never found it in the 3 years I've owned it. It's been disabled since I bought the car (Nashville doesn't have lojack). I'm curious about the 9-volt battery that supposed to be changed out...I'm imagining that thing leaking somewhere in my car.
Anybody ever found their lojack box? Supposedly it's somewhere high under the dash.

There are very few places they can mount a Lo-Jack unit in a C5 because it needs to be grounded. Mine is behind the carpet in the cargo area and they grounded it to the trunk latch.
You have to file a stolen vehicle report to have the system activated. Also there are only 9 states that have statewide coverage, and 14 other states that have coverage in major metropolitan or high crime areas. So, if you get a Lo-Jack be awaare of this.
I have LO-JACK installed...and one of the reasons I did was not only the price was right...but you get a steep discount on your insurance...at least I did...

The answers in order: 1) The owner does not call LoJack when the car is stolen. When you report theft to the police and they enter the VIN, it is automatically activated; 2) There is no battery that needs to be changed every year. If you have been paying for this, you've been robbed; 3) No fees after the initial purchase unless you buy extended service contract/warranty; 4) GPS trackers are easy to disable and do not work in parking garages. Also some reception issues in urban areas with tall buildings; 5) Insurance discounts vary by state and company. Check with yours.
I have a 4Runner with a lojack. Over the years it can been a pain, the big issue is co-existence with other parts of the alarm system. For example when I put in a remote starter, getting it to work with the lojack was very complicated and problematic. Considering the complexity of the electronics of the Vette, I'd be very reluctant to add an aftermarket lojack.

I say I worked Auto Theft for almost 8yrs and thieves have the vehicle stripped of what they need before you discover it stolen. I vote for a good insurance policy. I've seen too many hearts broken when the owners got a total POS back. If they want your Vette they will get it. Before you spend the big $$ for Lojack check to see your PD supports it.

I can't speak to the other answers but this is BS! Police enter your VIN into NCIC which is administered by the FBI. No police agency or the FBI is going to give a private for profit company that kind of access to their computer systems. If the PD supports lojack they may query lojack as to the location or use some type of receiver they have but it isn't automatic when entered into NCIC by the PD.

Eddie - You might want to verify your statement and then post your apology. LoJack does interface with police computers, including in Arizona. Maybe things have changed since you worked Auto Theft.
From the LoJack website: Through an unequalled and highly successful relationship with police departments around the country, LoJack is the only provider of vehicle recovery systems directly connected to state crime computers. ... When you file a stolen vehicle report with the police ..., automatically activating the hidden LoJack transmitter. The LoJack transmitter unit emits a silent unique signal that tells specially-equipped police cars and helicopters exactly where your vehicle is.
