Please help solve argument with hubby. Got a new exhaust plate for the vette this past weekend at Funfest in Effingham. Some dude at the motel told him he should use "Liquid Nails" to affix the plate. He thinks he can stick it on with the little adhesive thingies that came with the plate. Anyone have any experiences with the stickie thingies????? I want him to use the "Liquid Nails" - - - it has taken me since last February to talk him into putting this "mod" on the vette!!!! I think he should use the "Liquid Nails" Help . . . . . .
I used the 4 sticky pads and so far its holding just fine. It was $20 for the plate, and if it doesn't hold, well... I can afford a new plate. Liquid nails is too permanent, I might not want this on forever.
The 3-M will adhere... assuming you clean the mounting surface correctly. Add the Liquid Nails in the other areas and that thing will never come off. Win/Win
I used the 3-M and it worked, but then it started to sag a bit in one area so I took it down cleaned everything really good, added new 3M and this time added some of the All weather glue to it. It has not moved since....
BTW - even though it sagged a bit there was no way it was coming off...
The adhesive on the back is 3M as others have indicated. My plate is on now for 4 years and holding strong. If you clean the surface properly I defy you to get it off. In fact, experience has shown us here that you really only have one shot to get it on the car. It will stick like a magnet when it comes in contact with the car. Measure and mark precisely where you want it adhered and use these marks to place the plate. There is no reason to use the liquid nails.

You answered my question. I've heard people say the 3M tape really holds. I'm concerned about it going on crooked and not being able to fix it.

Hi Mindi!
When I put mine on (I used the adhesive strips it came with BTW), before I pressed it on, I took a level and made sure it was straight. It's lived through a hot Phoenix summer (and believe me, it gets plenty hot under there!) without an issue.....

Just bought a Vet yesterday, ordered the exhaust plate an hour ago from Ecklers, but it was about $45. Is there a better place to purchase?

My plate has been on for over 2 years. I used the adhesive "thingies" that came with the plate. So far so good.
The four 3M tape strips provided will stick well. In fact, make sure that you are content with the leveling of the plate before you adhere it. The tape is not forgiving (it sticks so well). Nice mod.

for me this is pretty timely; we ordered a plate last week & expect to be mounting it this weekend. thanks to those for the be-sure-it's clean and one-chance-to-do-it right comments. given that tape is used, i always wondered if the heat of summer & cold of winter (here in the northeast) would allow the plate to remain affixed to the car. it seems that if installed properly, it'll be on the car for quite some time. bub
